Statement of Intent
What I plan to do for my main task: Teaser Trailer
Production Team
• There are two members of my production team one of whom is myself. I chose to work in this partnership as a result of both of us wanting to do Teaser Trailers. My partner and I also wanted to do the same genre (horror) and had been brainstorming ideas prior to the grouping. This allowed us to come of with a story quickly by fusing are creative ideas together.
• We intend to meet weekly to work on the main project. We have also agreed to offer each other advice and support with the independent projects. By doing this not only will we have a good shared final project, but our independent work will be off good quality as well.
Role allocationIn my Group I am acting as the Producer in my team. My duties are to supervise and control the finances, creation, and public presentation of the film and teaser trailer. As producer I am actively involved throughout all major phases of the filmmaking process, from inception and development to completion and delivery of a film project. The producer oversees the process, which includes coordinating, supervising and controlling major aspects of the project.
The following documents I plan to produce and are essential for fulfilling my role:• Script breakdown • Budget breakdown • Storyboard• Synopsis
Fulfilling this role will be essential in achieving a successful final task
The purpose of my Teaser Trailer
I will aim to build up anticipation by “teasing” my audience with a short but gripping advertisement. Not only will I showcase the movies content but will focus, simply on letting, the audience know that the movie is coming in the near future. This will hopefully add ‘hype’ to its upcoming release so to guarantee an audience.
Brainstorm Of Ideas
Film CodesI will take note of
Written codesHeadlinesCaptions
Technical codesCamera techniquesFraming depth of field
Symbolic codesClothing Colour ObjectsBody language
The brief brainstorm gives me a vague
direction as to where I am going with my
project and what I need to include.
I will aim to include and have taken note of a
range of film codes and conventions in reference
to my chosen genre (horror).
By using the influence of real media to create my
piece, I hope the final project will seem
professional and be meaningful.
What budget do you realistically think you will need to make the teaser trailer?
How do intend to break down the budget for your teaser trailer?
The budget for the Trailer is £4000.
Realistically we feel that we wont actually spend the full estimated budget, but have put this number in place so to not spend an excessive
amount of money
As producer, prior to production, I will make a
Budget Breakdown sheet to help document money being
spent.
What title will you be choosing for your trailer? How will this generate interest and create an automatic fan base as regards your potential target
audience? What fonts will you be using for your title?Name of trailer:Plague
Reason for name:In the full movie an estate is wiped out as a result of a contagious bacterial disease spreading. The result of this infection is the discovered and felt by the two main characters.
The Plague is a well known word and many know it as the disease that affected many and is also referred to in the Bible. To symbolize the extent of the effects of this disease in my film, I chose to use this familiar word. The one word title is also direct and memorable.
The font used for my title will be stereofedilic and will be red and white. As well as the title being simple I wanted the font to be simple. I originally was going to write the title in all white but thought I would add red, which surrounds itself with the connotations of danger. This added a subtle emphasis to the title.
What will your story be about and how will you relate it to your chosen genre?
Plague is a Horror film and surrounds itself around two main characters.
Originally I classed my film as just horror however, as plans come together in terms of locations and characters it may also fall into the “urban horror” genre.
The plot of the film see’s two teenagers encountering danger and a series of heart racing events, when entering an abandoned estate.
The story relates to our genre as it involves “Blood and gore” a common theme in horror stories. The narrative also incorporates mystery and tensions are built throughout. The story also involves people coming back to life as zombie like creatures, another common “scare factor” horror film makers use.
How did you evolve the concept of your teaser trailer from the trailers you have researched?
1. Trailer opens with an estate on a normal day. Two teenagers walk on a
causal day out towards the estate.
2. Various newspapers with disturbing headlines about the estate appear stating the estate was wiped out due to a deadly virus. The abandoned estate is then shown. The teenagers contemplate whether to go in and
eventually one decides to go in by themselves. As one for the teens wait for her friend to come back she feels she is being watched and uneasy.
3. After a frantic search for her friend she spots her laying on the floor, but has she really? As she rushes to aid her companion it she notices her
appearance has changed and there is still no sign of life! All of a sudden the friend wakes up and tries to attack her friend, clearly not in a normal
state of mind…
But Can She escape?
Most trailers I researched used the “three-act structure” this helped to evolve there concepts and add structure to the narrative. This was useful when structuring my own piece and bringing my creative ideas together.
The three parts structure can be the following:1. Setup2. Confrontation3. Resolution
My trailer follows a similar three partStructure but has no resolution at theend. Mine along with other trailers usea three part structure to build mysteryby showing snippets of the film andcreating a sort of ‘montage’. This buildsup a sense of an enigma code.
Ideas of how I may open/ close the trailer
Opening
Closing
Montage of Main Characters
Flashback
Voice over Page stating the age & restriction for the film
Production company logo Close up of a
characters face
Credits to address the producer directors main characters etc Soundtrack
Fade out of an image
Loud sound
Title/ captions to inform when the movie is coming out
Establishing shot of setting
I will use some of these features so my trailer looks professional and attracts an audience.
What representations do you think will exist in your trailer?
Good representations• Behaviour of different ages (Older character seems more independent)• Young people being
adventurous (The characters go to explore the estate)• Young people sensible and can
solve problems (One of the characters is more sensible & in the finds a
solution to there problem.
Bad representations• Young people being mischievous
(may reinforce current stereotypes in the media of young people being rebellious e.g. the London Riots)
Age
Who are your potential target audience and why?
• Teenagers• Social group: C1,C2,D• Males and females• My production group have decided to target this audience. We feel teenagers and young adults are big consumers of the film industry and feel, we have a large audience waiting for another exciting teen centred film. We also feel we can provide certain creative aspects that an older production team may not be able to bring, as we are of the same age as our target audience and can relate more.
Digital Technology I intend to use?
Adobe Premiere: • Brief Description: A timeline-based video editing software application• What I will use it for: Editing images & sound in Post Production
Photoshop: • Brief Description: A graphics editing program• What I will use it for: Making and editing the features of the title sequence, editing pictures that may be included in trailer
Have you thought of the characters for your film?
The following profiles show my main characters which are very different in there backgrounds, personalities and age. The
character traits work with the story and how they deal and get into certain situations. For example, the wild adventurous
character, leaves the more timid one alone and ends up getting in trouble.
Name: Sasha

Conclusion
I made this statement of intent so I could plan my trailer carefully. The statement will ensure I
remember to incorporate attributes such as conventions and representations so to ensure a
good final product.
