Jennifer Aniston in a Bollywood remakeHow does the thought of Jennifer Aniston of Friends and Brad Pitt fame, croon-ing Tum pukar lo tumhara intezaar hai strike you?Well, the scenario isn’t that far off now.For the first time in the histo-ry of world cinema an Indian film is all set to be remade in Hollywood. And chosen film for this startling cultural makeover is the complex 1969 psycho-drama Khamoshi about a nurse in a mental asylum who falls in love with her patient and finally loses her mind when she can’t get her quota of sexual and emo-tional succour in life.To be entitled Silence, this version of Khamoshi will be in the English language. It will have Jennifer Aniston playing Waheeda Rehman’s role. Two major Hollywood actors will play the roles that Rajesh Khanna and Dhar-mendra immortalized. This startling crossover en-deavour will be produced by LA-based restaurateur San-jay Patel who has already spoken to Aniston.

Britney’s life in new TV documentary

The ‘Hit me baby one more time’ hitmaker will spill the beans about her battle with mental illness and her chaotic personal life on the MTV documentary. However, close ones fear that the programme would turn into a ‘car crash TV show’. “Britney’s dad is furi-ous, he thinks it’s a big mistake and doesn’t want anything to do with it, but Britney thinks it will help her custody battle for her two sons,” The Daily Star quoted a source, as say-ing. Britney, who has dazed fans with her eccentric an-tics, plans to appear on the show in a bid to put across her side of the story. It has also been claimed that Britney wants to ap-pear on the TV show, be-fore her mother’s book is launched, as the popstar

Says Patel excitedly, “She’s a regular at my restaurant and I have spoken to her about doing Waheeda Rehman’s role in Khamoshi. Now she wants me to give her the full script which we’re working on.” Apparently when Aniston

heard the idea of the healer getting sick in Khamoshi she had tears in her eyes. “She was very moved, “ admits Patel who says he’ll spare no expenses to make sure that his version of Khamoshi reaches a global audience.“I’ve been a major film buff

from childhood, “ says Patel. “For some reason Khamoshi has stayed with me. I’ve watched it repeatedly. It’s a story that can never grow old.” Though Patel intends to stick to the basic plotline he’ll also incorporate many changes in the new-age Hollywodized version of Khamoshi.“For example, Dhamendra’s role in the original (of the nurse’s first patient) was very sketchy in Khamoshi. His face wasn’t even shown in any frame. We’ll flesh out that character in Silence and offer it to a top Hollywood actor.”Marquee names like Brad Pitt and Keanu Reeeves are being considered for the male leads. So will Jennifer Aniston and her co-stars sing Humne dekhi hai un aankhon ki me-hekti khushboo, Wohshaam kuch ajeeb thi and those love songs written by Gulzar.“I don’t think so. My Khamoshi isn’t a musical. Sanjay Leela Bhansali did Khamoshi The Musical, “ ends Patel cheekily.

dreads it will expose their rocky relationship. “This could turn out to be

the biggest car crash televi-sion moment of all time,” a pal of the popstar said.

Pop star Britney Spears is set to reveal all the details of her crazy life in a new telly documentary.

I can never be Rishi Kapoor: RanbirRanbir Kapoor, who is all set for his second release “Bachna Ae Haseeno”, says constant comparisons with his father Rishi Kapoor are inevitable, but feels that he won’t be able to match up to his father’s on-screen charis-ma.“I know the audi-ence seeks another Rishi Kapoor in me. But I can nev-er be like him. He is such a spontane-ous actor, “ Ranbir told.Interestingly, a hit song from his fa-ther’s film “Hum Kisise Kum Na-heen” inspires the title of his second film “Bachna Ae Haseeno”.If given a chance to act in the remake of his father’s su-per hit “Bobby”, Ranbir said he would love to romance Dim-ple Kapadia on screen.

“No one can play the role of Bobby like Dimple Kapadia did. She is still so beautiful and I would love to woo her on screen again if a remake

is made, “ said the actor.Ranbir was in town to pro-

mote “Bachna Ae Haseeno” that is releasing Friday. He will be seen romancing Minissha Lamba, Deepika Padukone and Bipasha Basu

in the movie.Talking about his role, Ranbir said it is not that of a Casano-va as the title hints. “I play a next-door boy and the film is about his love life at different phases of life.”The actor says he wouldn’t like to be confined in lover-boy image.“In both ‘Saawari-ya’ and ‘Bachna Ae Haseeno’ I play a lover boy, but won’t keep myself con-fined to that particu-lar image. Give me two years and you will find me beat-ing up goons and kicking in the air, “ said Ranbir who is expecting his film to

do well at the box office.“My first film ‘Saawariya’

was not a commercially hit one, though it was the best possible launch that one can ever have. But this time I expect my film to be a com-mercially hit one.”As for romancing his real-life love interest Deepika in the film, he said: “Both of us have just started our ca-reer. We would appreciate if people talk about the film and our characters instead of linking our personal life with the romance on-screen.”He also pointed out that Hin-di film industry has grown highly competitive in the last couple of years and as a result all actors have to con-stantly reinvent themselves.“Right from Amitabh Bach-chan to Darsheel Safary - Bollywood has never been so competitive. Every day a new actor takes the reign. As a result we actors have to constantly groom ourselves, “ said Ranbir. His other films are Prakash Jha’s “Rajniti” and Rajku-mar Santoshi’s “Ajab Prem Ki Gazab Kahani”.

Now ‘Singh Is Kinng 2’It’s a trend to make a sequel of an immensely successful film and now that SINGH IS KINNG has hit the bull’s eye in In-dia as well as in the international circuit, Vipul Shah is keen on making a sequel.“That’s true, “ Vipul confirms. But there’s no game plan yet. “First of all, we need to get hold of a story to jus-tify the humun-gous expecta-tions that people would have from the sequel. Right now, we’re in a mood to party and work would follow later (laughs), “ he states. Will Anees Ba-zmee direct the sequel or will Vipul handle the respons ib i l i ty this time? “No, I wouldn’t direct it. Anees-ji is my first choice. But he needs to fulfil his commitments before he embarks on any new proj-ect. Lekin sabse pehle kahani to mile, “ he laughs.

I would like to direct Papa: Sunny DeolFrom being a good son, to a good brother, to a good ac-tor and now a good director, Sunny Deol has given his hundred percent to all that he has touched ever. It’s on the occasion of the music release of Bobby Deol’s film Chamku that the three Deols get together. It’s on the same occasion that Sunny opened his heart to Rajnee Gupta about his love for films, family and fans and of course something ex-tra…Q. What kind of film is “Chamku” according to you?A. Today it has become a fashion for everyone to say that it is a very different film, but regarding “Chamku” I would like to say that Vijeta Films has always entertained

audiences.Few of their films may have enjoyed success in a real big way and few may not but Vi-jeta Films is always known for making good entertain-ers. I am sure that “Chamku” will also prove to be a good film. I like the songs of this film a lot. Now since this is my film I will like everything related to it but the ultimate choice of liking or disliking the film is completely up to the audi-ence only.Q. Why Vijeta Films always is in the making of action packed films?A. It is not like that Vijeta Films is always connected with action films. If you see “Betaab”, “Socha Na Tha” and “Dillagi”, none of them is based on action. What else

should I say!Q. The title of the film re-flects comedy rather than action.A. It is very difficult to relate the film with its title because the title itself is Bobby’s name. I request people not to take this film as a comedy film. I am sure that once the promo and the photographs are released, people will be able to identify the title with the film. Q. What is the reason that Vijeta Films maintain so much gap of time between their films?A. From the very beginning Vijeta Films has been main-taining the gap of two-three years. We have not made films back to back from our production till date. But yes today all are busy making

two-three films at a simulta-neous run. We are also trying to make films with different and untouched topics.Q. You were making a film on Prithviraj Chauhan with Chandraprakash Diwedi?A. It’s not true that I was about to make a film on Pithviraj Chauhan with Chandraprakash Diwedi. It’s my dream to work with him. Let’s see if we get something interesting in terms of sub-ject then we will definitely make a film on it. Q. Is it true that after Apne you three Deols are again coming together on the big screen?A. Yes of course. Like Apne, Papa, Bobby and me are again coming together in a film. Right now “The Man” is in making. After this we are going to make Sangeet Shivan film with Papa and Bobby. I am waiting for this film from quite a long time. The film is about how a fa-ther and a son have com-plaints for each other. It’s a father and son relationship which will be shown in a comic way. Then in Decem-ber, Bobby and me are doing an out an out comedy film together. Then Papa, me and Bobby

will be seen in Masters to-gether which will be made by Anil Sharma. Hope that making of this film gets over by April or May in the next year. Q. How are you enjoying direction along with acting? Tell us something about you film “The Man”.A. I have enjoyed acting very much along with direc-tion. My next directorial film “The Man” moves around me and Shilpa. At present I am concentrating on my di-rection only.Q. Don’t you wish to direct your papa ever?A. I would definitely like to direct papa if I get a chance but let me make myself ca-pable of direction first. Q. What are your kids do-ing now? Will they also join films?A. My kids have all my permissions to do whatever they feel like. If they want to join films, they will be given enough chances to prove themselves but at present they are studying. Education is very important in ones life and after completing it they are free to choose the filed they want to be in.Q. What do you have to say about the pressure of under-

world in Bollywood?A. I don’t want to speak on this at all as we have so many other topics to discuss about in our country. I feel that even if you don’t pay at-tention to some issues even then we can live peacefully. Because no one is doing any-thing in this matter, we all are only talking about this. It is better if we talk about something good and make our life happy.Q. Have you seen your papa’s movie “Life in a… Metro”?A. (Laughing) I have only seen “Apne”. Well, it was a joke but I have not seen that film. I am very bad in films. Sometimes I don’t get to see my own films. It’s not that I don’t want to see films but I don’t have time to sit in one place for three hours and watch a movie. Many peo-ple say that papa has done a wonderful job. Hope that I get to see this movie very soon.Q. We have heard that the sequel of the film “Ghayal” will be made.A. Yes, we wanted to make it but it’s too late now. I think that it is difficult to make a sequel of any good film.

It made sense to move C Kkompany22nd August seemed like quite a crowded date till last weekend. There were as many as 6 films slated for release - C Kkompa-ny, Chamku, Maan Gaye Mughall-E-Azam, Phoonk, Mumbai Meri Jaan and My Friend Ganesha - 2.Out of the 6 films, at least 2 have announced their deci-sion to arrive after a week (C Kkompany, Chamku) while 3 have confirmed their 22nd August arrival (Maan Gaye Mughall-E-Azam, Phoonk, Mumbai Meri Jaan). Mean-while My Friend Ganesha - 2 still appears to be in limbo.Six movies releasing on the same day may have been looming large on the mind

when the decision to move C Kkompany was taken, isn’t it? “More than the competition due to merits (or the lack of it) from any oth-er movie running along with us or be-fore/after us, we had to look at a practical scenario of sheer multiplex space that we could have ended up getting. It made sense to move the film, “ informs Tusshar Kapoor who is looking at his second success in a row this year af-ter One Two Three.Talking maths,

T u s s h a r e x p l a i n s , “Do some simple cal-c u l a t i o n , how many shows we would have ended up g e t t i n g eventually if we had arrived on 22nd Au-gust? Singh Is Kinng was meant to open huge and it’s ef-fect would well con-tinue into

the third week as well. Then both Bachna Ae Haseeno and God Tussi Great Ho are big too which would have meant that exhibitors would have kept good number of shows of these two films as well.”He adds, “Now imagine 6 movies coming just a week after. Even if you are the preferred film for a multi-plex in a particular week, you would still have ended up with 2-3-4 shows only due to sheer volume of films.Isse achcha toh 1 week baad aaye! At least we would end up getting good number of shows for ourselves since by that time the euphoria of the earlier released films

would have subsided to a great extent.”Was it an easy decision to move C Kkompany con-sidering the promotion has been on full swing and quite some money is being spent on ensuring that the comedy is visible to the audience prior to its release? “It wasn’t a matter of an easy or a difficult decision; it was a matter of being practical. It was a matter of gauging what worked best for the film”, says Tusshar in a matter of fact tone, “When you are getting good vibes for a film and people are showing a keen interest, it doesn’t quite matter if you move the film by a week.”

Critical protection for you and your retirementRetirement. It’s supposed to be a wonderful time… a time of relaxation and enjoyment that you’ve worked hard for, saved for and looked for-ward to over the course of your working career. But what if you or your part-ner is diagnosed with a criti-cal illness just before or after you begin your retirement? If you’re not prepared, you could spend a good portion of your savings dealing with that critical illness, putting a major dent in the retire-ment portfolio that you’ve worked so hard to build over the years. The five- to 10-year period just before and after you retire is known as the “retirement risk zone.” With such a short time hori-zon to retirement, absorbing the cost of a critical illness during this period could put your retirement plans in se-rious jeopardy. But there is something that can help mit-igate that risk: critical illness insurance.SAVING FOR RETIRE-MENT INVOLVES MORE THAN RRSPSMeet Mike and Sandy – both are 37 years old, nonsmok-ers and have three young children. Mike owns his own landscaping business and Sandy does the

bookkeeping. They are very comfortable, but definitely concerned about saving for retirement, sending their kids to university and saving for a rainy day. Mike and Sandy have a to-tal of $250,000 in retirement savings and are working with their advisor to protect the future growth of these assets so they can enjoy their retirement. They think that putting money into their

RRSPs will cover all their bases. However, Mike and Sandy’s advisor, Jim, poses a ques-tion: Suppose that, at age 60, one of them is diagnosed with a critical illness or has a stroke or a heart attack. How will they cover the costs to recover without tapping into their retirement nest egg? Jim suggests that they con-

sider critical illness insur-ance to help protect their retirement savings. He ex-plains that some group plans now offer critical illness insurance, but since Mike owns his own company, he’ll need to consider an in-dividually owned plan. Mike and Sandy think about it. They’re non-smoking, healthy individuals, so it’s hard to imagine either one of them suffering a critical ill-ness. Still, they know it can happen. Jim assures them that the fi-nancial commitment to pur-chase a critical illness policy is affordable and, depending on how much coverage they purchase, the premium can be about the same as the total fee that they pay on the mu-tual funds in their RRSPs.MIKE AND SANDY ARE READY. ARE YOU?Mike and Sandy decide to buy critical illness insurance and help protect their retire-ment income.Take a look at your own situ-ation. Could you survive the financial strain of a critical illness? For most people, the answer is no. Talk to your advisor today about critical illness insurance and how it can help protect you and your retirement.

I’m Ranbir’s ‘first love’: Minissha LambaA ride on the highest roller coaster, zooming on bikes and venturing into the sea - Bollywood actress Minissha

Lamba has done it all with co-star Ranbir Kapoor while shooting for “Bachna Ae Haseeno”.“We did a whole lot of things while shooting for the film including riding on the highest roller-coaster in the world. We also rode on hus-kies and bikes. In fact, one day Ranbir and I were asked to step into the seawater for a scene. We were dreading it,

but our director insisted and so we had to do that as well, “ Minissha said here. The actress was in the capi-

tal along with director Siddharth Anand and co-stars Ranbir, Deep-ika Padukone and Bi-pasha Basu to promote “Bachna Ae Haseeno”, which releases Friday. The film traces the love life of a man from the time he is 18 years old to when he is 30, and Minissha plays Ran-bir’s first love interest.Talking about her role Minissha said: “Mahi is a 17-year-old girl from Amritsar who believes in a fairytale ending of a story. She has very

simple expectations from life. She wants to fall in love and get married. I feel there is a little bit of Mahi in all of us.”Ever since the film’s pro-mos have come, Minissha is seen as a trendsetter of sorts thanks to her unconvention-al, trendy and youthful look in the film. “I’m the only one who is Indianised in the film.

My role is set in the year 1996 and I play a Punjabi girl. But we didn’t want the look to be typically Punjabi. We wanted it to keep it funky and slightly modern.“My character Mahi has worn patiala salwars with spaghetti tops and kurtis with capris. In fact, the patiala salwars with tops has be-come a rage among college students in Mumbai. I don’t know about Delhi though, “ Minissha quipped. A Punjabi by origin, this is not the first time she has played a Punjabi girl.“I played a Punjabi girl in Sanjay Gupta’s ‘Dus Ka-haniyaan’. But in ‘Bachna Ae Haseeno’, my role is 180 degrees from that of Mini in ‘Dus Kahaniyaan’.”“Mahi is a city-born and hip Punjabi girl. Her family is rich and she goes on a trip around the world unlike Mini who came from a strict rural background, “ she said.Minissha, who wanted to become a journalist before entering Bollywood with “Yahaan”, played a scribe in Samar Khan’s “Shaurya”.

“Now I want to play a war correspondent, “ she said. The actress claims she al-ways signs films with her eyes wide open.“I always knew what I was getting into. I always wanted to play well-de-fined roles. ‘Bachna Ae Haseeno’ is my first out-and-out romantic film and I feel it’s a novel concept. I have got to play a very cute, girl-next-door char-acter.” Asked whether Ranbir got Minissha in the end or not, she replied: “If I reveal the plot of the film, why would anyone go and watch it?”

Bridal hues: What’s the new red?

While the traditional red has most definitely taken a back-seat, we get our fashion pun-dits to share the new red for the bridal season. Oscillating from gentle emerald greens, rich burgundies, flashy yel-lows to finally a colourful peacock palette, accentuated

with matching embellish-ments, desi brides can pick from an array of hues. “Hot pink will be the hottest shade which looks elegant with silver work on it. Yel-low also makes for a beauti-ful bridal outfit with multi-coloured thread work and booties all over in orange and aqua shades. A colour like white, which people would never wear on D-Day, is now coming into vogue with vibrant treatments to beautify the outfit,” suggests Leena Singh of the designer duo Ashima-Leena.

Envisaging the shades of a modern bridal outfit, Leena elaborates, “A lehenga made on peacock base with aqua green and blue embroidery can be accentuated with mir-ror work and multi coloured thread work. To add to the look, some gold jewellery

can make the right match.” Designer Ritu Kumar adds, “Burgundy is definitely the most predicted colour this season for its richness and antique appeal. Bright red is out, thus we don’t do much of sequins and crystals. There is more of metallic embroidery these days, re-sembling a woven Banarasi sari.” Deviating from the conven-tional red and maroons, de-signer Kavita Bhartia feels brighter shades work well for a trousseau. “Emerald green can be the new red for the

season as they are offbeat. Also, red can be combined with bright blue and earthier tones like browns, burgundy, and brick red for a striking combination.” Couturier Renu Tandon too prefers a soothing palette in shades of pink (indigo

pink) and fuchsia (mix of dark pink and light midnight blue) this season. “These shades would come out well in a mermaid shaped lehenga with lighter shades merg-ing into the darker tones with beautiful drapes on the waist and hips, embellished with gold ands silver work at the border. This can be teamed up with a crouched blouse highlighted with Swarovski.” For ceremonies, other than the main wedding day, vibrant shades like baby blue; lemon yellow, turquoise, pinks, mint green are the haute pick. “Vari-ations of pinks can be worn on the other cer-

emonies. A combination of yellow-red or mustard-red can also be perfect. Olive nicely fits most themes, but being a dull shade, it has to be teamed up with brighter hues,” feels Kavita. Ritu adds, “Something in off white highlighted with deep red as well as shades of olive is making a mark. Mehendi green can be mixed with saf-fron and mustard on the out-fit with minimal sequin work for the sangeet or Mehendi function.” Most brides are not only

about getting dressed in typical a salwar kameez. Designer Leena says an Indo Western look is in vogue. “A free flowing crinkled skirt in mehendi green looks modern when teamed with a choli. It isn’t too heavy and can be kept light with red booti work all over a florescent base.” For occasions like the engagement or recep-tion, Renu shares, “Purple looks fabulous on these occasions. Brides don’t prefer darker colours, so sophisticated shades are coming into limelight. A dress designed on mint green base can be orna-mented with lime and em-erald green thread work or Swarovski to complete the look.” With this riot of colours - here’s to a play of senses and shades this auspicious season.

Stunning, beautiful, daring and out-of-the-world, is what every bride desires to be on her D-day. And with modern day brides seeking experimentation in her wedding day look, it’s no mean feat deciding on the all important colour palette for her trousseau.

TV TALK

Nethra needed the money desperatelyThose who undermined the potential of this petite, glam-ourous girl were amazed by her resilience when, week after week, she jumped from a helicopter, allowed spiders to crawl all over her, jumped in deep water and emerged as the clear winner of Fear Factor – Khatron Ke Kh-iladi. Nethra Raghuraman, the model-turned-actress, who has performed all these stunts with apparent ease and finesse, tells DT that the win has helped her attain some personal goals and has taken care of some of her acute fi-nancial crisis. ‘I wasn’t sacred’ You will be surprised to know that Nethra, who per-formed these spine-chilling stunts, can’t swim and is scared of heights and creepy-crawlies. So, what egged her on to participate in such a daring game? Surely, there must have been moments when she just wanted to quit the game? “I didn’t enter the contest thinking about win-ning. I just took each day as it came, and slowly I started

enjoying the daredevil acts. Yes, there were moments when I just wanted to run away from the sheer mad-ness of it all. But I am not chickenhearted, so I stayed

on,” confesses Nethra. Fan following With 13 girls competing for the prize money, how was it vying for macho man Akshay

Kumar’s attention on the sets? Nethra says that Akki always motivated the girls and was like a friend to all of them. “He goaded us all to push ourselves to extremes – physically and mentally. As a true mentor, he gave us hell when we couldn’t perform a simple stunt, so there wasn’t any question of competing on that front,” says she. Money helps Just when you are congratu-lating the young lady on her admirable feat and ask her how does she plan to spend the prize money of Rs 50 lakh, Nethra surprises you yet again with her complete honesty. She says, “Before Fear Factor ... happened, I desperately needed money for a very personal reason. I would not like to talk about that reason, but I would like to tell you that I was won-dering all the time from where will I get all that mon-ey. Even now, I may have to take a loan from a bank, but this prize money has been a great help.” Is it her relationship turmoil that has made her so finan-

Katrina and Salman are still in love despite fight with SRKContrary to media reports Salman Khan and his girl-friend Katrina Kaif are still a couple. The two have defi-nately not broken up.Both had been refus-ing to comment on their relationship sta-tus post the infamous birthday bash of Ka-trina wherein Salman had a huge fight with Shah Rukh Khan. Reportedly, this fight and Salman’s obnox-ious behaviour had angered Katrina and she had walked out of their relationship. But according to sources, the couple was seen enjoying a cozy dinner at a Mumbai star hotel last Wednesday. Salman had come in alone fol-lowed by Katrina. They both had hugged each other first and then sat having din-ner for over an hour there. Also, they left to-gether in the same car with Katrina’s car following Sal-man’s.

Also, the shooting of Yu-vraj is going in full swing in Filmcity where the couple is seen having a blast shooting together.

The unit members claim, they have never seen them fight once after the reports of their break up have start-

end her professional relationship with beau Salman Khan and said that a good script was the only pre-condition for her to sign a film.“I have never said that I will not work with Salman Khan after Yuvraj, “ she said. “I always go by the script. I do not know how such spec-ulations float around. If our dates work out, we will feature in Sohail Khan’s next film.” On reports that she was no longer part of Shah Rukh Khan’s Temptations world tour after the much-hyped SRK- Salman fracas at her birth-

Ranbir-Bipasha coziness leaves Deepika fumingThe Bengali beauty, Bipa-sha Basu seems to be quite a man’s lady. Even been with John Abraham, she had the famous controversial kiss with the football star, Christino Ronaldo. Now the Bengali beauty seems to be interested in Deepika Padukone’s boyfriend, Ranbir Ka-poor.Early the Dusky babe had admitted that she was really fond of Ran-bir. What had put fire over it was that Bipasha insisted to the organiz-ers that it should be her and not Deepika who will enter the stage with Ranbir first at a recent show.Deepika didn’t like this and she made it sure that it will be her and not Bi-pasha to enter first.Things went from bad to worse when Bipasha made a grand entry with Ranbir leaving Deepika into fumes.Next we saw is a sultry and over angry Deepika

not at all acknowledging or interacting with Ranbir. She was looking boiling hot.

We hope Ranbir calms down Deepika soon before things go hay-wire.

Hollywood knows only AishwaryaBollywood’s dusky beauty Bipasha Basu has carved a niche for herself in Hindi

cinema and says she has no intentions of going to Hol-lywood because filmmakers there are familiar with only

one Indian actor - Aishwarya Rai.“No filmmakers of Holly-

wood are willing to sign any Bolly-wood actor without a screen test apart from Aishwarya. They seem to know no Hindi film ac-tors, not even Am-itabh Bachchan, “ Bipasha told.“I got a chance to go there, but I found out that I will have start again from scratch like screen tests and other tantrums. They treat you like a newcomer. So I decided to stay in Mumbai and be the ‘queen’ here, “ said the actress who was in town to promote

“Bachna Ae Haseeno”.Talking about the film with newcomer Ranbir Kapoor, Bipasha said she signed on

because she hadn’t done a romantic movie for quite some time.“I haven’t done an out-an-out romantic film for a long time so when I heard the script of this film, I found it a little fresh.“I play Radhika, who comes all the way from Ranchi to Mumbai to become an ac-tor. But she ends up being a member of (choreographer) Shiamak Davar’s dance troupe.” Bipasha doesn’t seem to mind sharing screen space with two other actresses - Minissha Lamba and Deepi-ka Padukone in the film.“I am okay with even a 10-minute role provided I get an apt character and my share of attention on screen. Anyway, if you are a Bolly-wood heroine, you have very limited choice. I was intelli-gent enough to realise it long back and hence am picking up roles that look good on-screen, “ she said.

Priyanka and Salman make TruceOn Tuesday Priyanka set aside her differences with Salman Khan. But for a good cause. And that too because she had old pal Bobby Deol for company.Suddenly within a span of two weeks in August Priyan-ka Chopra has two releases that need to be plugged pushed and promoted. The focussed workaholic de-cided to do what some time ago she wouldn’t for even Harman Baweja. Priyanka declined to be on Salman Khan’s game show Dus Ka Dum last month when her film Love Story 2050 with Harman was on release. But now setting aside her rather frozen rap-port with Salman she shot for Dus Ka Dum late on Tuesday night. This time she had both Bobby and Salman for company on the show.“Actually it wasn’t Tues-day night. It was Wednes-day morning. We shot the episode from 1 am to 4 am. I

had a tough time keeping my eyes open. But Salman en-tertained us all through. He played a double role. He was both the host and the hero of one of the films I was promot-ing.”Apparently Sal-man laid the charm so thick that Priyanka melted and de-cided to call off their cold war.“First of all, when did I ever say I had any problems with Salman? We make a fantas-tic on-screen pair. We proved it in Mujhse Shaadi Karoge. And now again in God, Tussi Great Ho we rock together.Amitji plays God, by the

way. As for Salman he’s al-ways fun on the sets. He had me in splits during the shoot-

ing. He had Bobby and me entertained throughout Dus Ka Dum. And yes we both won a lot of money.”

Chichi and Sush went spicyDuring the shooting schedule of Do Knot Disturb in Delhi, Govinda ended up making Sushmita Sen a huge fan of the famous Delhi chaat.A unit insider reveals, “The unit of Do Knot Disturb di-rected by David Dhawan and produced by Vashu Bhagnani starring Govinda, Sushmita Sen, Lara Dutta

and Riteish Deshmukh was in Delhi recently for a long shooting stint. While most of the stars and unit members enjoyed bing-ing on the snacks served on the sets, Sushmita Sen would not eat that and most-ly order her special diet food from outside while Gov-inda would disappear during

these snacks times. When Sushmita once asked Govinda about his disap-pearing act he revealed that he would visit one of his most favourite chaat vendors in the capital city since he is a die hard fan of these chat-pata delicacies. He then told her that she should once try eating it and she would defi-

nitely end up loving it. But Sush was apprehensive and replied with a huge NO. But Govinda being the charmer that he is, got a few chaat items parceled for her and made her taste them. Sush tried them and then on just could not stop relish-ing them. From then on she started requesting Govinda every day to get her those Delhi chaat items for her and he would willingly oblige.

Soon, Riteish, too, joined the chaat eater brigade and thereafter whenever there would be an evening snacks break the three would disap-pear together to Govinda’s favourite chaatwala!”Do Knot Disturb is Gov-inda’s second film with Su-shmita Sen. Both had ear-lier played husband–wife in David Dhawan directed and Ekta Kapoor produced Kyon Ki Main Jhooth Nahi Bolta.

Aamir dislikes awards but accepts this oneAamir Khan’s ‘Taare Zamin Par’, a sensitively made story of a dyslexic boy may have come and gone but the film still lives in the hearts

of many critics and parents who have differently abled children and filmfolk alike throughout India.A day before he was to re-ceive the best ‘debut Direc-tor’ award for his widely

acclaimed film, Aamir had paid a visit to the South In-dian Film Chamber of Com-merce auditorium and in-teracted with the media and

with the audience which included film industry peo-ple and organisa-tions working with and looking after differently abled people. The film was insti-tuted 11 years ago by the Gollapudi Srinivas Memo-rial instituted by well known Telugu wirter, journalist and actor Gollapu-di Maruti Rao.This was in mem-ory of his son who died in an accident while he was film-ing his own debut film as a director years ago.

‘’Yes, normally I don’t accept any award be-cause I think judging which film is better for an award is in my opinion subjective. But I do when an award is given by people who are

genuine. I go by the organi-sation and and the people be-hind the award’’, Aamir said at a press conference.Asked what gave him the confidence to handle such a subject, Aamir said, ‘’I fell in love with the script and the story. I wanted to show it to the people of this country and the audience.’’ Aamir said, ‘’It sensitised me towards my own kids and I am happy that it has sensitised parents who have children with such problems like dyslexia.’’ Aamir said the theme of the film was simply universal.Heads of welfare associa-tions caring for the dyslexic children who also partici-pated in the press conference and later in the interactive session thanked Aamir im-mensly for making such a film.Aamir also announced that he was dubbing ‘Taare Zamin Par’ in Tamil as ‘’Vaal Natchathiram’ and in Telugu as ‘’Neelimegha Taralu.’’ ‘’The dubbed versions will be released on September 14, ‘’ he said.

After Saif who is Rosa’s next?Rosa was heart broken af-ter been dumped by our hunky Saif. She started keeping a very low profile (obviously who won’t), but then again we saw Rosa at-tending fashion shows, events, premieres, and partying late at nights. We thought she was quite strong to handle everything by herself. Lesser we knew some-one else (who was very close to her) was also there to lighten her problems as well as give her the shoulder.Yes, Rosa seems to have found solace in someone’s arms. Now who this someone is a mystery. The only thing known about him is the fact

that he is not from Bolly-wood.Through our sources we came to know that the lucky guy is someone named Chetan Gara. So when we

asked about him from Rosa asking if she is in a relation-ship with him, Rosa’s voice deepened (as if she’s been caught). She said she is in a meeting (please note: she

had told us that she is at home in the beginning of her conversation) and added that she can’t talk before hanging up.Hmmm…We really wonder why is Rosa playing this game of hide and seek with us. She should learn something from Saif who openly told the world about his relationship with Kareena. For the time been we would like to in-form Rosa that play-ing hide and seek with us won’t mat-ter much because sooner or later that person’s identity will be revealed (as it happens in the end of every game).

A new innings? After donning the role of a dutiful wife in devotional films like Sri Ramadasu and Panduran-gadu, pretty Sneha will be playing a lover girl in her next release Aadivishnu, opposite Arun Kumar, son of Dasari Narayana Rao . Looks like she has realised the need to focus on youth-ful roles instead of tear-jerkers, to stay in business. Despite her good looks and promising talent, she was never considered hot property in Tollywood. Even her image makeover in Pardhu went haywire as the film bombed even before makers took a look at her new avatar. The pressure is on the actress to go beyond traditional roles to display her versatility. Will she be going in for a new innings altogether?

Aries: This week’s scenario is highlighted by your ability to get yourself back on track to the road to success. Recent events have put your emotional and physical well being out of whack. Static energy will only cause you to short out your battery. Simple pleasures will be needed in order to help you to relax. Strong words will only bring strong re-actions. Realize that tempers may be short in those sensitive areas.

Taurus: This week’s scenario is highlighted by your ability to get back to your basic needs and wants. People with attitude problems shouldn’t even come into the equation, stay clear of them. Your dilemma is that everybody wants a piece of you. There’s usually a reason for everything that you do, but your creativity may be driven more out of necessity than talent. If you want to try to turn this situation around, you’d better start now.

Gemini: This week’s scenario is highlighted by motivation and positive re-inforcement. Recent events have put you in a position of power. You’ll feel moved into proclaiming an alliance between yourself and your peers. Your message will come across in a way that encourages others want to join in. You know just which emotions to draw out of others and when to do it. You could combine valid points of view to provide a dynamic effort.

Cancer: This week’s scenario is highlighted by your ability to bide your time. You need to continue to play the waiting game. Others want answers right away, but you should take some time to analyse the whole picture. If you try to push the process faster, something will hit the fan. Unfounded suspicions and accusations will only make others more uncomfortable. It’s better to keep quiet than to be negative.

Leo: This week’s scenario is highlighted by your need to get things com-pleted prior to starting your next project. You’ve gotten behind and need to get a better grasp of things. You usually work hard but lately you’ve been very lax in matters of importance. Everyone is a specialist or is in need of one. Prove that you know more than your history suggests. Save time and money by drawing on the resources that you already possess.

Virgo: This week’s scenario is highlighted by passion, excitement and the start of new relationships. Negative energy will have no power over the posi-tive flow that you are rolling on, but remember, you need to learn to walk first before you can run. The warmth you feel inside will spark your passion for life. Get out there and enjoy all that life has to give. Look past others misgivings in order to take advantage of their expertise.

Libra: This week’s scenario is highlighted by your need to find new ways to succeed. Past performance will not carry much weight and will not have any bearing on the current situation. You need to find your voice and figure out how to use it to your best advantage. Before moving ahead on your own, think about ways to unite others. Human emotions cannot rule you, this time. You must try to look at things on an a more intellectual plane. Try your best to stay clear of those who try to bring you down to their level.

Scorpio: This week’s scenario is highlighted by your ability to act on your emotions. Sometimes, you may be too quick to re-act, but this week, you’re right to take a stance. Others are the same as always, but your perception of them will change radically. Be aware that your words and your actions will affect them greatly. You can probably talk your way out it, but everybody is watching to see the outcome. Stay calm and your confidence level will rise.

Sagittarius: This week’s scenario is highlighted by your ability to get your-self a better perspective on things. Recent events have made your temper flare and you need to re-organize and consolidate your energy. Even though you feel agitated, you’re very social and very capable. Once the meetings are over, transform your home into a refuge from the real world for a while. Step back and realize that things aren’t quite as bad as you thought.

Capricorn: This week’s scenario is highlighted by your ability to take the responsibility for your actions. You’ll have many options from which to pick from. A show of strength will improve your standing in the community. Choose the honorable road. You may need to go out on a limb, but you’ll have strong support from those in authority. You may need to fulfil a family obligation that you almost forgot about.

Aquarius: This week’s scenario is highlighted by your ability to put your ideas into motion. In order to accomplish your immediate goals, you must reach out and try new ways to get the job done. If you want to see results, you should know who can help. Maybe there really is a way to benefit from this power surge you feel. You have a great network of allies that can provide you with some solid support.

Pisces: This week’s scenario is highlighted by your ability to make a very good first impression. People with good attitudes are much easier to be around. So, just be yourself and others will fall in love with you. Use your time wisely and spend it with children who need your guidance. It’ll really help you to feel the magic again. Your impeccable charm will help you to handle your responsibilities with strong authority and creative style. Impor-tant details may be overlooked by those who do not care.

YOGA For Mental Health, Mind and Body

the consciousness in the mind. Philosophically, yoga produces a union of body, mind, and energy (or soul or spirit) to bring about a state of equanimity (calmness). Yoga is most effective in dealing with psychosomatic problems. If practiced dili-gently on a long-term basis it can have a significant effect on a person’s health both on a preventive basis and to control and cure existing problems.Benefits of Yoga.Yoga has tons of benefits. It can improve flexibil-ity, strength, balance, and stamina. Yoga is all about breathing correctly about integrating that breath into your being. Conscious Yoga doesn’t call for you to force or strain your never or sinew. Yoga Slackers are a group of yoga practitioners who practice their asanas not on a mat, but suspended on a piece of 1” flat, stretchy tubular webbing (like rock climbers use) tensioned be-tween two anchor points above the ground.A Great help for Expectant Mother.Yoga is an excellent way to “train” for the marathon of labor and motherhood. Practicing Yoga in pregnan-cy helps to strengthen and stretch muscles, release ten-sion and maintain good pos-

Yoga can help liberate your true nature. Please don’t use yoga to suppress it.Is Yoga a Religion?Yoga is not a religion, it fits with any lifestyle, and in fact yoga is one of the most valuable tools you can learn! It will improve your lifestyle! Yoga is not a competitive sport. Yoga, including postures, breath-ing exercises and medita-tion is the science of posi-tive mental health. Practice Yoga regularly and it will strip away the obstacles that separate you from your source. Yoga practice can be invaluable in this process, as it can alleviate tension from and clear en-ergy blocks in the body and mind. Stretching should only take five minutes, other peoples would rather spend the extra fifty- five minutes playing in an actual sport or spend-ing time with their families and friends. Yoga is not just physical fitness training. It is an authentic holistic tradi-tion inclusive of contempla-tion and meditation. Yoga injuries are unheard of. The meditation techniques are a comprehensive combination of concentration, sublima-tion and ideation.Reduce Stress and Anxiety.Yoga is an effective method to reduce stress and anxi-ety. But how has this stunning reduction become possible? Consumers have Trai to thank. The tele-com regulator has thrown open the voice market to Internet Service Providers (ISPs), ushering in the promise of between 40% and 80% lower voice tariffs. With this, Trai has — in a single stroke — destroyed some of the last regulatory barri-ers to advanced and cheaper technology. The regulator acted on its own, without being asked to do so by the department of telecom. But hold on a moment. Couldn’t you already make calls over the internet? Yes, but only over net-enabled PCs. You couldn’t terminate internet telephony calls on fixed and mobile networks and vice-versa. Trai has now made it possible to do so. And with ISPs set to hammer rates down to a new low, mobile service providers will be left with little choice but to follow suit.It gets better. All call charges today include a 30-paisa in-terconnection cost (fixed tariff paid by an operator when he uses another operator’s network for his customers). Trai is revisiting these rates as well, and any reduction will also be passed on to consumers, which means even lower tariffs.Happily, DoT, which could have been the only roadblock, has welcomed the move. “Trai deserves credit for a wonder-ful job. We welcome any step towards liberalization and de-regulation and are happy to embrace this recommendation,” S Behura, secretary, DoT told TOI. Not everyone shares that sentiment. While the ISP Association of India (ISPAI) re-joiced, the GSM association, COAI, said the move violated level playing field issues as mobile operators pay a consider-ably higher entry fee compared to ISPs.

After overtaking parent Suzuki in annual sales last fiscal, Maruti Suzuki is all set to play a pivotal role in the Japanese auto major’s global plans and emerge as an “exclusive base” for small cars. “Quality and productivity have improved manifold in Maruti Suzuki in the last few years. Let us now channelise it to the next level, where we become the exclu-sive base to manufacture small cars for Europe,” Maruti Su-zuki MD S Nakanishi said. Nakanishi, who took over reins of the company from Jagdish Khattar last year, told share-holders that the A-Star compact, to be reintroduced as Alto in Europe, would be the first major model towards this end. “Let us do more,” he said, while lauding the R&D capabil-ity of the Indian subsidiary that had contributed during the design process of the Swift and A-Star. The statement of the Maruti MD is a good news for govern-ment, which is promoting India as the manufacturing base for small cars, by offering sops like lower excise duty. Al-ready, South Korea’s Hyundai has made India the main hub

for some of its small car models like the i10 and Santro, while some other automakers are also working at similar plans. Suzuki would sell the A-Star, which would be solely manu-factured in India, in Europe from the last quarter of this year. Suzuki plans to export 1 lakh units to begin with, reserving only 50,000 units for the domestic market. It also has plans to increase overall exports four-fold by 2010, against the 53,000 units exported in 2007-08. “We now want to take it to 2 lakh cars annually by 2010-11. Exports will en-able the company to be at the frontier of technology, quality and manufacturing excellence,” Nakanishi said. The company also plans to strengthen its capability in devel-oping new models from the R&D team in India. “The com-pany has taken a decision to develop its in-house capability with the support of Suzuki. In line with this, the numbers of engineers will be scaled up to 1000 by 2010. The company will also set up an R&D centre and test track, at par with the facility at Suzuki, Japan,” Maruti said.

Tips for First-time Toronto buyersIf you’ve ever thought about owning your own home, now may be the time to take action. Lower interest rates combined with a growing inventory of homes for sale in the Toronto market may translate into a good oppor-tunity for buyers in negotiat-ing the terms of a sale with a seller. The home buying process may seem daunting to some-one who has never pur-chased a home before. But, through home buying edu-cational seminars offered in your community, and with the assistance of an expe-rienced loan officer, a first-time home buyer can obtain a better understanding of their financing options, lead-ing to a more positive home buying experience.Whether you’ve been dream-ing of owning a home for years or you’ve just decided it would be a smart financial move to make, your first home buying experience will be a memorable one. It’s im-portant to learn about your financing options in order to find the mortgage that’s right for you. Here are some suggestions for first-time home buyers:

1. Educate Yourself About the Mortgage Process – By taking the initiative and learning about the mortgage process, you can be more confident in the financial decisions you are making. It’s important to learn about different types of mortgages, how much you can afford, how your credit impacts your interest rate, and the benefits of home ownership.2. Save Just a Little Bit More – It’s not only impor-tant to save money for the down payment and closing costs, but it’s important to factor in some of the other costs of home ownership such as decorating, repairs and maintenance. Many mortgage lenders recom-mend that first-time home buyers have at least three to six months of additional savings in their possession in anticipation of these ad-ditional expenses.3. Check Your Credit – An individual’s credit score will have a significant impact on his or her mortgage loan ap-proval and interest rate. A good first step in financing a home purchase is to check your credit history. You can request a credit report from

credit reporting bureaus such as Equifax. Carefully review your report and contact the credit reporting bureaus to correct any inaccuracies.4. Shop Around for a Mort-gage Lender – As you start thinking and preparing for the home buying process, start shopping for the mort-gage lender from whom you would like to obtain a mort-gage for your new home. Because this process is new, it’s easy to go with the first lender, loan officer or mort-gage broker you meet. In-stead, take your time and shop around. Start by ask-ing friends, co-workers and family members for recom-mendations. When you’ve identified two or three loan officers or mortgage bro-kers, ask for references. In addition to pricing (interest rate and closing costs), focus on customer service as well as other services and tools that a mortgage lender may be able to offer you.5. Get Pre-approved – Be-fore you start working with a real estate agent, consider contacting a mortgage lend-er to obtain a pre-approval credit decision. A loan offi-cer will review your finan-

cial status, including your income, cash flow and credit score, to help you determine the maximum monthly hous-ing payment for which you may be able to qualify, and, if qualified, “pre-approve” your mortgage before you’ve found a home. Armed with a mortgage pre-approval, you can start searching for homes with a much better idea of your price range, and in turn save time as you will know the right homes to focus on. Obtaining a pre-approval may offer more confidence and certainty to home sellers in your ability to purchase the home.6. Don’t Be Afraid to Ask Questions – Once you’ve found your new home, the mortgage lender will help you through the details of the loan process. From appli-cation to closing, your loan officer will work through the financing process with you, just as your real estate professional should do in the home buying process. Throughout the process, read all loan documents carefully, and involve an attorney, if necessary. 7. Inspect – Before you commit to purchasing a

home, don’t forget to hire a professional home inspec-tor to conduct a thorough assessment of the property. An inspector can alert you to any major problems with the home, and/or help you understand potential short-

term and long-term home maintenance issues. May your journey on the road to home ownership be a happy and successful one.
