Establishing shot: Shows the name of the film in the first shot written on a mirror. The reflection establishes the scene and shows the audience where the events will take place. The man in the corner makes it a very unique shot and makes the audience wonder who it is.

Medium Shot: First introduces the characters to the audience and helps to show the proxemics between them.

Long Shot: Shows the woman from the side with her head down looking already vulnerable to the audience. Allows the audience to see she is totally alone as the shot isolates her.

Reaction Shot: Close up shot of the woman’s face as a reaction to a noise heard. The closeness shows the fear on her face. Indicates she isn’t alone.

Tracking Shot: Long shot where the camera follows the girl into the toilet. Shows that she is going to investigate the sound and implies something is about to happen. Again the camera isolates the woman.

Point of view: A shot from the woman’s perspective showing the audience something scary. Relates to the genre of the film and helps to build up fear by making the audience feel more involved.

Extreme close up: Here the camera focuses on the woman’s hand going towards the door handle. Makes the audience feel tense as they are unaware of what is on the other side.

This shot is very effective in the way that it doesn’t take into consideration the rule of thirds and therefore makes it appear disturbing to the audience as the shot is distorted.

Close up of the woman’s hand with blood on it. Creates a sense of fear within the audience as more horrific things start building up.

Close up: Shows the woman’s eyes and hands. Looks extremely vulnerable peering and shows she is clearly frightened which helps in creating a sense of fear within the audience.

Low angle: Makes the character dominate the screen and look in control. The closeness shows the characters eyes and that he is clearly evil. Implies there is nothing the other character can do to survive.

Camera pans from a shot in which the audience can see the characters in the reflection of a mirror where the camera then pans around the bathroom to a medium shot of the cameras.

This is a cut used which shows the woman listening as through a wall as if something bizarre is to be heard. The camera then cuts a point of view shot suggesting something serious has happened and the quick cut would make the audience jump.

Camera slowly zooms in onto the door handle as the woman reaches out to open it. This helps in building up tension as leaves the audience wanting to know what is on the other side of the door.

Starts with high-key lighting which doesn’t give away the genre from the start. Allows for the lighting to change with the events.

Lighting changes to low-key as strange things start happening. Helps in building up tension within the events and creates a scarier image. The darkness also makes the characters look more vulnerable as are in a dark place alone.
