• The Bells in Russia used to be perceived as living creatures:

they get baptized have original name differ by unique voice

(one of the “great” bells is called “Swan” for its voice sounding like bird’s cry)

• Sometimes the bells were punished and even exiled…

Tolling of bells• Religious:

calls believers to divine services, express the triumph of the Church and its divine services, proclaims people outside of church about most important parts of divine service

• Historical:

convoked people’s assembly and showed a way out to strayed travelers

• Informative:

notified about dangers like fire and disasters

• In tragic days of Russian history the bells called people to defense of the Motherland. The ringing informed people about the victory and greeted return of defenders.

The huge bell height is 6.24m/20.8ft diameter 6.6m/22 ft weight about 200 tons /440000 pounds

was made in 1733—1735 in Moscow. Now it is the monument of Russian founding art.

Interesting facts• Tolling of bells have the unique healing characteristics. The bell radiates enormous
