Costume and Props – these artists have wild hair, tattoos and are smoking which indicate to the audience that they are alternative artists. The magazine styles the artists in this way so that they differ from the ‘clean

cut’ image of a pop artist. Make up is also experimented with as is costume (Lady Gaga) to create an individual outfit which is idea of being an indie artist. Any props used are music related, microphones,

guitars (Muse and Mick Jagger)

Representation

Indie as a group is represented as dedicated to finding the newest music through online, print, record shops, club nights and word of mouth. For Indie people there’s nothing better than discovering new artists and music. Guitar music has seen a rise in interest within indie groups of people. It’s no longer just about indie rock bands like Vampire Weekend – Indie groups have embraced other types of alternative music. However their main target is championing independent artists and music rather than a specific genre. Many people interested in Indie music set up blogs or other online platforms to find new music, advertise their own or show others what music is out there. Boys and girls are rocking similar looks – skinny jeans, vintage and Converse/Vans/casual trainers. Their high street looks focus around being practical, functional and unisex which we are seeing more of in many high street shops such as Topshop and H&M.
