Costume for my character profile• My film is in the British crime drama genre. I have

researched costumes used in ‘Bulletboy’, ‘Kidulthood’ and ‘Adulthood’ as they are also British crime drama films.

• ‘Bulletboy’, ‘Kidulthood’ and ‘Adulthood’ all utilise hoodies for use of costume. The protagonists in these crime dramas all wear hoodies extensively throughout the films.

Costume for my character profile• These films all used hoodies as costume to make the audience identify

with the characters.• The audience target audience for British crime dramas is young males

who are working class. Many of these working class males would wear hoodies, as hoodies are inexpensive and so are easily afforded by them. This means that hoodies are used in British crime dramas to create a link between the characters and the audience, and so make it easier for the audience to identify with the characters.

• If audiences can identify with characters they will be more likely to watch the film itself.

Costume for my character profile• For my title sequence I have chosen to challenge this convention in

terms of costume by not having my protagonist wear a hoody. He is instead going to wear a quilted jacket.

• This is because I don’t want the film to be too familiar and similar to the audience, as that may bore them and cause them to not watch the film.

• I have chosen to use a quilted jacket for the costume as this piece of clothing is associated with middle class individuals. And this therefore shows the audience that my protagonist is going to leave his life of crime behind to begin a crime free life in the middle class world.

Costume for my character profile• My character is trying to leave his life of crime behind in the film.

Therefore it would be inappropriate for him to wear a hoody, as hoodys are associated with crime and he no longer wants to be associated with crime.

• I got this idea from the character ‘Moony’ in ‘Kidulthood’ and ‘Adulthood’. In ‘Kidulthood’ ‘Moony’ is a criminal and wears a hoody. However in ‘Adulthood’ ‘Moony’ leaves his life of crime behind for a life in university. To show his change in lifestyles in the films he no longer wears hoodies, as he no longer wants to be associated with crime.
