What is your favourite genre?

Most people between chose pop as their favourite genre, suggesting that teens are more in to extravagant funky type of music,. In addition, grime, hip-hop, rap and R&B which fall into a similar category, was liked quite equally., indicating that these genres which involved a lot of bling and flashy elements draw in the viewers, perhaps due to the desire to emulate these aspects. The minority that were 20 years + chose rock and indie as their favourite, perhaps this highlights the idea that more mature individuals are not so fond of all the trills and complexities of the pop genre for examples, as so prefer sheer simplicity.

A staggering 70% of the participants were more interested by the music video as opposed to the track which instantly alludes to the idea that the visuals and aesthetics displayed if far more engaging than the track itself. However, 30% were more captivated by the pure track. This suggests that the creativeness of a music video can enhance the overall attraction of the song.

92% of people said they preferred a music video that was narrativeBased as they were ‘’far more interesting to watch’’ as opposed to a video that is purely performance based as nothing new happens when the artists is simply dancing, and can become tedious to watch. When a story is told through the music video, this captivates viewers significantly more whereas performance based videos lead viewers to lose concentration.

People were far more intrigued by the materialistic elements of a video eg: cars, clothing, jewellery. As opposed to the technical side in the crafting of a music video. This could perhaps reflects teenagers young mentality in that they are not interested in the creativeness of camera effects , instead they are drawn in by the attractive people and storyline involved.

Most people think ‘bling’ is the most typical feature of an R&B video as opposed to alcohol which was ranked the least typical feature in this genre of music. Bling as well as flashy cars are used to highlight the artists status and depict their excessive wealth. Similarly, female figures seem to be imperative in establishing a ‘player-like’ role and are generally used to illuminate their ability to attract women.
