Question 3:What kind of media institution might

distribute your media product and why?

Page 2: Question 3

• I believe my film would be one that a global conglomerate would be interested in. I wanted it to be in the style of Hollywood glamour, so an independent film would probably find this quite hard to produce due to financial problems and contacts.

Page 3: Question 3

• My film involves lots of different genres; like romance, action, drama, thriller. I think a global conglomerate would find this very easy to distribute and help with production. Most independent film companies like for example ‘Vertigo’ (which is a British company) distribute a type of movie, in this case the genre being gritty lad football type movies. The do this as they know they have an audience for it, so they’ll always make a profit. They’ve only started branching out to different genre movies.

Difference between conglomerate and independent companies:

• Global companies like for example, Time Warner, distribute these type of movies: Whereas independent

institutions distribute these:

These films are very famous and generate a huge profit, more than independent films could ever have. E.G. (Dark Knight- $250 million)

These movies aren’t very well known (only in the UK they would be most likely known)

• Also independent films like Vertigo, need help from other film companies to distribute as they just can’t do it themselves. They aren’t as renowned and don’t have enough money most of the time. For example they teamed up with distributor ‘Momentum’ to help their movie ‘Monsters’ be distributed.

• It would be easier, for the type of film I’m making, for a big company to distribute it.

• Furthermore I think a conglomerate like Time Warner, Disney, Universal etc. would be a good idea to use as they are American.

• My film involves gun crime, glamour, celebrities; it is action packed and could possibly generate a wide audience as it has lots of factors that would appeal not just the male but also female audience as well, therefore potentially making a big profit, which would attract a conglomerate to invest.

• But also, my movie involves things that are stereotypically American. Like celebrities, gun crime etc.

• Universal distributed ‘King Kong’ (2005) which was a film I was very interested in whilst making my film.

• A small independent film would find it hard to finance this and distribute it, as a consequence of this they’d lose a lot of money.
