AUDIENCE FEEDBACK ANALYSIS

To get audience feedback on the first draft of our featurette, we uploaded it onto YouTube so that we could get a link, and insert it on a private Facebook page. We then added people to join the private Facebook page and asked them to watch the featurette and answer a few questions.

The questions that we asked our target audience were:

I feel that these questions were appropiate and useful as they would have given our target audience something to consider as they watched the featurette.

The first response that we got was positive overall. The person commented on the mixture between black and white shots and normal shots, and they also enjoyed hearing what the actors thought about their characters which is the aim of a featurette and so I feel that we’ve achieve our main target. They also felt that the genre was quite comedic with the exaggerated actions which fits in with the silent movie genre that we were aiming for. The person also wanted to watch the movie, which makes the featurette a success. However, they suggested that the ending was a little less abrupt, which we will aim to do for our final piece,

The second response is also mostly positive. The person enjoyed the filming style and said that it was effective for a featurette with the editing between shots. They especially enjoyed the music within our featurette, which is stereotypical of the silent movie genre, and they felt it was authentic for the theme and so we have successfully met the criteria of the silent movie genre. They also felt this was for the black and white shots for the 20th century silent film genre. They felt that the film is well suited to an audience of all ages and groups so we have a wide target audience that would be appealed to the product, and they said that they would watch the movie again so it is a successful featurette they also commented on the ending, which is where we will need to improve.

The third response was also very positive; the person enjoyed the professionalism of the visual design and thought that the contrasting shots were interesting, so we were successful with the editing. They enjoyed hearing the actors speak about the characters so the featurette is appealing to target audience. They also felt that it would fit into the comedy genre which we were aiming for with the over exaggerated acting relating to the silent movie genre, and so we were successful in conforming to stereotypes of the genre we were aiming for. After watching the featurette for ‘The Masterpiece’ they were also tempted to watch the movie ‘The Masterpiece’ and so I feel that we have reached the target that a featurette has to advertise the film.

This person also felt that the visual design of the featurette and they appreciated the contrast between scene shots and interview, which is a main feature of a featurette so that we are successful in creating a decent product. They enjoyed the comedy aspect of the movie, which is the main genre and also typical of the silent movie genre so we have successfully met the criteria of our initial movie genre. They also felt that the interviews met the documentary genre which is also a subgenre of a featurette and so we have also met that aspect of the featurette genre sucessfully. They felt that the product was made clear with the title ‘makin of’ whichis comparative of similar real life media products, and is also conventional with the variety of scenes shown throughout. They felt that it’d improve if the interviews were longre and more indepth, and there were end credits.

This persona was also highly positive towards out product draft. They loved the old black and white silent affect and the set design as it gave an authentic appearance to the product, so that we have matched the genre of silent movie. They liked the style, acting and editing and the interviews have a good insight to the film which we have done successfully and also relates to the featurette genre as the interviews are aimed to entertain and give a good insight to the media industry of the film making progress.. They felt the genre’s were drama and comedy which were our intentions, so we have successfully portrayed the conventions of our chosen genres which are stereotypical for silent movies. They feel that the featurette could use more information in order to reach it’s full potential which we will aim to do for our final draft. They are also curious at what the movie is about so we are successful in creating a featurette to advertise the movie and make audiences want to watch it.

AUDIENCE FEEDBACK ANALYSIS

The results that we got back were mostly positive, and so we feel that we have been successful in creating a product that would appeal to our target audience. This is most likely due to the amount of research that we did, including product research and the market research conducted in the beginning of the year, which helped us when it came to planning and constructing our main product.
