Q2: How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary texts? Not only does ‘.com’ have a trailer along with it is a movie poster and a magazine cover to give it the extra publicity for the public eye when it comes to advertising the film. The poster and magazine cover are my ancillary tasks which I believe compliment my trailer and give it more power behind the message and adds the extra thrill behind a new film coming out for the audience. Within all 3 pieces they each have a strong link between them and I feel they suit each other very well. This will catch the viewer or passer buyer’s eye and increase the popularity of the film. The whole point of making a trailer, posters and magazine covers is to advertise your film and get it know to your target audience that it will soon be released and to get them ready for it, and build up the excitement towards it. This to me is the one big thing our products focused on, which was advertising the name ‘.com’ by using these three methods, promoting a product or service is key to making your profit from it, because if you don’t get it recognised or spread about no one will know what it is or not heard of anything about it and won’t bother with it, so many films have failed due to the lack of advertising for them and their target audience just haven’t see anything about it so they don’t reach enough return back from it to carry on. I wanted to take from others mistakes and make sure my three products all fitted together and worked well enough to put the message across or at least get the audience interested enough to look into it. we went about finding out target audience by doing some independent market research and general market research

I wanted to take from others mistakes and make sure my three products all fitted together and worked well enough to put the message across or at least get the audience interested enough to look into it. we went about finding out target audience by doing some independent market research and general market research this lead us to our decided film idea, and then from there to our end product and our ancillary products. They lead us to our final choice of hitting the student audience and the older teen young adult, because we found most of the audience age was around 16-25. We also didn’t want to go with the stereotypical gory horror film we wanted to put a unique spin on to it so we added the religion factor on top of the teenage factor so we thought it was two decent angles to go with. Because you always get the younger generation stereotyping religion and taking life for granted so the aim we wanted to achieve was religion teaching them a lesson for being the naive youth we planned to portray them as in our film. You can get the general message

from the trailer as they sign up to an unknown website and soon pay the price for doing so. But I believe by working across the three advertising markets it puts ‘.com’ more in the public eye.

A poster for a movie is such a brilliant way for spreading the word that a new film is coming out, they are cheap to make in bulk and they can go pretty much anywhere within the public eye, so putting a poster up for a film is really going to kick start your fan base, this is why I have made a

poster to go with my trailer. I don’t my research into what kind of posters there are to see what makes a good poster. I came to the conclusion that there are 2 types of posters that really attract the audiences eye. But within horror posters I found that a more mysterious poster that doesn’t give much a way works best for the genre because it make the audience more intrigued as to what lays beyond the poster so this makes them do their research or ask about it and by doing so it can go from one person knowing about it to 100’s within seconds. I based my poster on the scream 4 posters as you can see on my blog. Dark colour scheme, bold fonts, one

main image, the title and date I faded that poster over the top of mine to get a rough Idea where I was placing everything and how I was going to go about doing it. if you look at the scream 4 posters they are very minimalistic but work because the fan base for the scream films is huge and a small portion of that will come from people seeing the posters and looking into it. the combination of my main product and the poster is they both include the killers face. On the poster it’s not that clear who it is and on the trailer you only see if for a few seconds so I believe they both combine to increase the mysteriousness behind the film and the idea as a whole.

My next ancillary text was my magazine cover. And although you have to pay for magazines if the cover is gripping enough people are willing to pay for it then and there and get the info they want to know in one go. This is also a very good way to advertise my film I believe because it will be in the majority of shops people walk in and out of every day and big supermarkets get masses of people walking through each day and the magazine stand is normally always as you walk in to attract you straight away. This is also another revenue stream to add on top of everything else as well. I decided to make my own magazine from scratch with my

own title, I went for a European approach as my audience would be worldwide and my magazine would be sold worldwide. So by doing this it gets ‘.com’ known everywhere. The way in which it combines with the main product is the main image on the magazine is the killer holding the cross which fits in with one of the iconic scenes in the trailer of the killer placing it upside down on a grave. The reason I used this picture is because if people see him hold it up right then put it down upside down or vice versa they are going to want to know what relevance to cross has and why he does it so they are either going to read about it or try and guess and wait for the film to explain all. Also with

my magazine cover I went for the red white and black colour scheme, to go with the stereotypical dull and blood themed but the white contrasts it so you don’t think it’s all bad till you read inside the magazine and find out more about it all.
