Ancillary Task: Poster

In order to comply with the conventions of our music genre, who better to ask than our target audience. So to deliver the best poster possible our group conducted a questionnaire to see which had the best response, and the outcome was this poster . However we wanted to somehow differentiate from existing posters in our genre in order for us to stand out, which we had positive feedback.

From our poster research which we conducted, we wanted to try and get away from the crazy back ground colours and patterns which were used in ‘ BLINK 182’ and ‘My Chemical Romance’ advert poster. So as a group we decide to go for the more toned down look which was demonstrated by ‘SUM 41’ poster which we felt was simple, yet effective. However we did follow the conventions of all the posters by having all the band in the photo.

In two of are three poster mock-ups we inserted ‘5 stars’ at the bottom of the advert poster. The reason behind this is because we thought that it would add brand recognition to our group and it would be as symbolic message which represents our group.

SUM 41- underclass hero

Busted- A present for everyone

For are ancillary task we decided to take different aspects of each of the following album covers to help put our own stamp on our album. So we decided to take the same type of shot from SUM 41 and a similar pose as Busted. We felt it was vital to get the ancillary task of the CD digipack perfect as we needed this to appeal to our target audience from the ages of 12-25.

We used SUM 41 shot type ( long shot) to follow the technical conventions.We also followed the conventions of the facial expressions used in ‘Busted’ album. Matt taking the more serious pose and Craig taking the more fun pose.We also followed the 3 colour rule in ‘SUM 41’ album, ours being white, black and yellow

Here we have two identical close-up shots which is shown in both blink 182 and our music video. We wanted to follow the same conventions as our group wanted to give of the same connotations of sex appeal as blink 182 did. Also we thought that I was appropriate to follow as both the narratives are very similar.

Here we have a shot from blink 182 music video which we followed the conventions of keeping the same performance location area, there's being in a toilet and our location being in a music room/ recording studio. This was not only identified in blink 182 music video, but in other videos in the genre we research

Here we have a pan movement in the opening sequence in the music video of sum 41, in too deep which is the music video we have done. As we felt this movement gave great effect and established the location of the video we felt to follow the conventions and demonstrate a similar shot. The fast paced shots and camera movement was a in all similar narratives which we researched.

Here we have identified a convention within the genre that in the performance section of the music video there seems to be a lot of close-up interaction with the band. We felt that this added more of an entertaining value to the video, therefore we decided to follow the conventions of the genre.

Our group also established the fact that the editing in the music videos of are genre had all fast cut edits, used to reflect the tempo of the song. We felt this was a good effect, and decided to try and incorporate it In to our music video
