Proposed project title

How affective are animations and how do they capture the public’s attention?

Section One: Title, objective, responsibilities

Title or working question of project

How affective are animations and how do they capture the public’s attention?

Project objectives (eg, what is the question you want to answer? What do you want to learn how to do? What do you want to find out?):

I want to answer the question how easy is it to organise and produce a stop motion product. I want to learn how to properly organise for a product how to properly screen write and direct a product and find out how other directors go about producing such forms of media.

If it is a group project, what will your responsibilities be?

This product will be produced by me so therefore I will have full responsibility for all parts of the product including filming, animating, lighting and editing. Once all these aspects are complete I will then sort about post production.

Section Two: Reasons for choosing this project

Reasons for choosing the project (eg, links to other subjects you are studying, personal interest, future plans, knowledge/skills you want to improve, why the topic is important):

I have chosen to produce a stop motion animation because I enjoy film work and production, it relates to my course I am currently studying.

I wish to gain more experience in working on such a product and in the main roles of a media product such as director, animator and editor and I wish to learn how to improve on my screenwriting.

I also plan on using this product for my portfolio in order to assist with getting into university for I wish to look into film studies and film production further; I have a major interest in these subjects and believe that this project will be ideal for gaining experience. I

also plan on using this work after university in order to help with finding future careers in the film industry.

Activities to be carried out during the project (eg, research, analysis, writing, preparing for the presentation, etc):

How long this will take:

ResearchFor this project I will first need to research and analyse similar products to get a better understanding as to how directors and producers have gone about creating their products. I will have to watch certain products which relate to my project to gain a better understanding as to how they are laid out in post-production and editing.

I plan to have this part of the work complete within 3 weeks of term

preparationI will need to organise and gather equipment for the purpose of the product (Camera, lighting, etc.)

Organising equipment will take between 1-2 weeks tops

ProductI will need to write a screenplay for the product and set up a studio for the production. Once organised, I will need to produce the animation so that it follows the original story that I had in mind whilst at the same time ensuring that it meets up to the audiences expectations.

Writing for the product will take 1 week max before shooting can take place.

Post productionI will then have to produce the product and edit it before organising post production. I will need to check though beforehand whether or not any copyright work will be needed before I go ahead with the presentation of it.

Filming the product will vary time wise as I will have to plan when I can shoot so that it doesn’t correspond with lessons

EvaluationOnce all of the above is complete I will then have to evaluate my product, while looking at where I could’ve improved my work and made adjustments

The evaluation will take up to 1 week to finish

Milestone one: Completing all initial research for the purpose of the product.

Target date (set by tutor-assessor):

Milestone two: Completion of the animation itself and post production of it

Target date (set by tutor-assessor):

Section Four: Resources

What resources will you need for your research, write up and presentation (e.g, libraries, books, journals, equipment):Resources I will need to research into will consist of looking at books which relate to producing short films and media products, journals and bibliographies about directors and producers of products that relate to what I am producing in order to have a clearer

understanding of how media series are thought up and produced.

What your areas of research will cover?I will cover how directors have gone about writing and pitching their ideas, how they are organised so that shooting can take place, how plagiarism is avoided when creating a product of a specific topic and how to go about post production upon completing my project.
