Match on action

• This is a key feature of continuity and is explained fully in the video.

Shot/Reverse Shot

• The shot reverse shot if where two people are talking to one another and being filmed.

180 degree rule

This is the 180 degree rule. This example could possibly be used in an interview where the camera only films one side of the two people and the

other side in the next shot. You never see the other side of the 180 degree arch which is shown.

Recording findings

Whilst doing some test shots, we discovered that the camera tended to go out of focus quite a lot achieving a low quality image. Fortunately for us the majority of the camera angles are going to be still, this will allow the camera

to focus itself easier than if we were to do moving shots.

As Shipmate Mac Daddy

Cameo appearance from myself, Yasmin

Wadsworth

As I will only make a short appearance in the film and Fay will not be acting in it we will do most of the camera shots and angles, however

Reece and Brett also took the role of the cameraman also so we all get to take it in turns. The majority of the shots will be OTSS’s, close ups and Mid shots as the area in which we will be filming in has a limited amount

of space for us to use. Lack of equipment is also the reason for restricting the types of shots that we can do, for instance we wouldn’t be

able to do an aerial shot.

Locations

The shot to the left is the corridor that we originally chose for Reece to walk down. The shot on the right is the room in which Brett was to wait for Reece to

come to him and ask to be enrolled into his Crew.

Changes to Dialogue

We changed the area in which we would shoot in, this are did not have a door so Reece was unable to knock on a door, meaning Brett could

not say his line ‘Come in!’.

We also changed the section where Reece leaves Brett, we added a line ‘No Problem! Here take this.’ whilst Brett passes Reece a pass.

Due to a teacher walking in near the end of our film we had to improvise an extra role to make it flow better, this was where I made a cameo

appearance where my line was ‘Oh Captain!’.

Evaluation•Does your media product use match-on-action, shot reverse shot and the

180 degree rule in ways that are similar to or different from ‘real’ media examples? What are the similarities/differences and why have you done it

this way?

Our media product does use all three shots in ways that are similar to the examples that we have found. When Bret and Reece were talking there were shots of the 180 degree rule and shot reverse-shot. When Reece was walking up and down the stairs you saw shots of match-on-action. The similarities are when Reece and Bret are talking the shot reverse shot is the same as the example we have.

•What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product?

I learnt many things from this process such as holding a camera steady, knowing when a shot reverse-shot would work effectively, how to upload and edit the footage using the I Movie Maker

on the I Mac. I also learnt how to make a blog and how to update it by adding images and writing about each lesson on it.

•How will you use what you have learnt in preliminary task in your main task?

I will definitely be using the same programmes to produce my main task such as the I Movie Maker as it is so much easier to cut clips, merge them and add effects such as

writing to show credits. I will also be using the tripod so that the camera shots aren’t as shaky in any parts like it was at times in the preliminary task.
