In what ways does your media product use develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products

My media uses the following forma and conventions:

EquilibriumContinuityCamera movement and anglesIntroduction to genreIntroduction to narrative

The first form my media uses is equilibrium which introduces the narrative, the genre and the protagonist.

We are given insight into the genre through the mise-en-scene of the protagonists clothing and location. There is also the protagonist’s name in the form of the title.

The protagonist sitting under the tree shows the audience that she will be confiding in on them and saying her thoughts I did this through voice-over, a technique particularly used in films of this genre e.g. Finding Neverland and Peter Pan

Camera angles and movement. For my media production I also

incorporated camera angles and movement. I included

Camera shots.

I used a close-up to show the protagonists emotion. I shot it from the right side so I would not cross the 180 degree rule.

The two protagonists are shown together in a medium shot and they stare intently into each others eyes to show they are truly in love.

This medium close-up was a way into introducing the protagonist and to also introduce the genre.

I used a long shot to show the location and also to show that Maria was going to walk to the tree, in a sense it was also a point-of-view shot.

Camera Shots.

This shot is also a two-shot although they do not have conversation it shows the two protagonists together and it is commonly used in romantic scenes to show the body language and emotion.

Camera movements.

For the two above images I used panning to film the protagonist being in love with the two men. I panned from right to left for the first image, then left to right for the second so that when I edited it would give the effect of graphic match. I chose to do this because it gives us insight into how the protagonist can’t choose between the two.

Introduction to genre…

The genre I chose was costume drama of the Victorian era post 1870 pre 1910. I wanted this era because I enjoy films such as Pride and Prejudice and Finding Neverland which were based in that time. There is also an element of romance in my media production although it does not dominate.

The only difference is that in films such as Pride and Prejudice there is a sense of humour I did not incoporate humour into mu opening sequence it is very melancholy and the main focus is the protagonists who tells us her backstory through voice-over.
