The Current SituationSingapore’s recycling effort is
severely lacking in our neighbourhoods. There is little
effort put into encouraging people to recycle their waste
materials!
Our ConsiderationsWe went through the Basic Pattern of Thinking for Basic Pattern of Thinking for

Our Alternatives1. Start a ‘Give and Take’ storybooks
campaign - exchanging old storybooks which are still in good condition.
2. Promote a school recycling/ environmentally conscious culture – only use recycled paper/materials.
3. Collect old material (clothes, books) and give them to the lower-income families in Pasir Ris Primary School.
Our SolutionIn order to solve the problem, we have
decided to promote environmental awareness in our school
Hence, we are going to organise the
Our ReasonsAccording to the School Librarian,
there are many old and unwanted books that are still in good condition
We want to continue our recycling efforts in the school in raising our schoolmates’ awareness in the environment
We also want to encourage our schoolmates to read more widely.
What Our Project is all about…This campaign is all about
exchangingexchanging books with your friendsSimply bring a book from home and exchange it with another book with your friends
Or you can simply put your books in the shelves near the Speakers’ Corner for others to exchange
We ideate…
1. The books must be in good condition (eg The pages must not be torn or dirty) in order to qualify for the Give & Take Campaign
2. Any book not qualified will be given away
3. The borrowed library books cannot be exchanged
We did this…
• Worked with Mrs Caroline Silva, Library Coordinator
• Put up signage and arrange books for exchange
• Advertise in Ezi-Announcer
Results
• A range of books in different languages for exchange
Positive Outcomes1. Through this effort, we are sure that we
have helped the Earth by: reducing the number of trees cut down
to print books reusing old books instead of throwing
them away saving money saving electricity needed for the
printers to print the books
2. We have also helped encourage our schoolmates to read more books. Reading widely is definitely a plus
3. Also, this campaign has allowed pupils to get a chance to exchange books with their friends; without even spending a cent to read more books
The next lap....We hope to continue this project by dedicating a day for every Pasirian to exchange books with one another
