• Technology that exist today, can be used to enhance education in schools from around the globe. With the help of Skype and Twitter, students and teachers can come together and monitor progression.

• Each school in the district will assign teachers at every grade level who will post information that the kids learned in school throughout the school year. Governing body or oversight will check the quality of postings.

• Elected teachers for the job from each department (Math, Science, English, and History) will gather, collect, and post ideas.

• Ideas will be shared between schools in their district and perhaps outside the district, not limited to Saint Louis region, but perhaps globally.

How This Works…How This Works…•Elected teachers from each department will broadcast, post, and teach training sessions through voice over IP systems, including Skype and twitter.•Training sessions will be broadcasted for availability anytime of the day and will include teachings from outside the classroom that a teacher might not have time to lecture.•Example- English teacher will teach students how to write a successful research paper. Science teacher from same grade/school will upload video and share with students in his class to achieve an efficient science research paper.

•ATA -- The simplest and most common way is through the use of a device called an ATA (analog telephone adaptor). The ATA allows you to connect a standard phone to your computer or your Internet connection for use with VoIP.•IP Phones -- These specialized phones look just like normal phones with a handset, cradle and buttons. But instead of having the standard RJ-11 phone connectors, IP phones have an RJ-45 Ethernet connector. •Computer-to-computer -- This is certainly the easiest way to use VoIP. You don't even have to pay for long-distance calls. There are several companies offering free or very low-cost software that you can use for this type of VoIP.

SKYPE/TWITTERSKYPE/TWITTER

• How to use Skype from an iPhone•Along with using Skype to

broadcast lectures and training sessions, students will all use Twitter for daily/weekly updates regarding projects, papers, and other homework assignments. •Teacher will post a Twitter update that would reach each students cell phone or computer instantaneously. Then the student will respond using 140 characters or less to update progress.•This gives the teacher an idea of where each student is concerning the assignment, along with giving the student goals to complete work.

THE ULTIMATE GOAL

THE ULTIMATE GOAL

•To enhance the education system throughout the United States and worldwide.•Closing the bond between teachers and students allowing a different type of teaching for students who learn better via video’s or on the computer.•Teachers and students will have a better idea what to expect when assignments are given along with video postings and examples. •Finally, given the technology that currently exist, teachers will be able to relate to their student more effectively and have a better understanding with what the student struggles with.

TimelineWhen a breakthrough is just that!

• 1950’s: Jose Delgado initiates first implant devices.• 2000: Dr. Miguel Nicolelis trained a monkey to move a

robotic arm using thoughts and electrodes implanted in her brain.

• 2003: Refined the experiment, training a monkey to move the arm without even bothering to move her own arm.

• 2003/2004: Experiments on Parkinson's disease patients to find the individual neurons that are activated when someone consciously thinks about a movement and then makes the movement. Studies have shown that these brain cells remain active even in amputees.

Dr. Nicolelis 2003 Experiment

Dr. Nicolelis 2003 ExperimentThis experiment is 7 years old! That’s right, just like Pranav Mistry’s six sense technology is almost a decade old.

The progression of this technology is moving at an alarming rate.

Timeline (Con’t)Timeline (Con’t)• April 2004: The FDA approved the first clinical trial of such a device

in paralysed people.• BrainGate system

– Internal sensor implant carries signals to external processors via wires running through the skull

– Sensor itself is smaller than a baby aspirin and has 100 electrode sensors -- each thinner than a hair -- that detect electrical activity in the brain.

• Brain Communicator– Development at Neural Signals in Atlanta– Uses wireless technology to transmit signals to external

processors rather wires.• June 25, 2006: Honda reveals it Brain Machine Interface dubbed

“BMI” for possible consumer use in the near future.

What is comingWhat is coming

• At the current rate of technological advancements we will soon be living the fantasy world found in such movies as “the Matrix,” “Johnny Mnemonic,” and “the gamer” but it can go just a bit further.

The Ultimate GoalThe Ultimate Goal

• Humankind will eventually lead itself to a path of enlightenment, it is theorized in Transhumanism.

• Transhumanism is the theory of positive use of technology to enhance and eventually redefine what it means to me human.

• This in turn leads to post-humanism.• Post-humanism is a hypothetical future being

"whose basic capacities so radically exceed those of present humans as to be no longer unambiguously human by our current standards."

Page 18: Our wants of the Future

In the EndIn the End• Neural Interfaces will be the pathway to lead mankind to

be able to download its self into a robotic facsimile which would contain all memories and personality traits of that human. The construct will be self aware of actually being the human. For practical purposes it would think and behave exactly like the original, including emotions such as hope, hate and love. But it is not the original, the original will irreversibly die when its biological brain can no longer be sustained. Thus assemblance of eternal life is achieved, at least at the point of view of everyone except the actual person who achieves it.

In the End (Bad Ending)In the End (Bad Ending)

• But in reality, we act like as virus to this planet. The nature of man is cruel and immensely destructive, so we can only hope that humankind exhibits some type of control over itself while straying away from total annihilation.
