“Here’s how it works, Putney. The bottom part is what we do. The meringue, that’s the markup.”
“Sir, are you accusing this board of Nepotism?
“Repeat customers. You know, brand loyalty. That’s what I’m talking about, Joe.”
“Don’t worry. We’ll just hide the body and bill his time like nothing happened.”
“Well, I see here sir that you have gray hair, a 3 handicap and a firm handshake. Perhaps you should be a marketing expert.”
“So you listen to what the client says and spit it back to them?”
“No, you listen to what the client says, write it down in a conference report, then send it to them as evidence that
you’re working on their business.”
“Why feel "good" when you can feel "great"?”
And then Putney realized, they were never going to be able to meet him halfway on the budget.
“And the best thing is - it's a product that doesn't actually do anything, so we can never be sued.”
And then he saw it. Checkmate in three and with it the inevitable poke.
“So then I sobered up, and realized, I’d been in advertising for 10 years.”
