The motive is the reason why someone does something.
For example, what is your motive for doing your homework?

Objective
To figure out someone’s motive, we look at a few different things. Here are the clues (inferences) we can use to figure out motive:
Objective – Character Motive
Character’s Actions– what is this person doing? How are they acting?
Try it! What are 2 things that Chang did to get his mother’s wok back? Write it in your chart.

Character’s Traits – what is this person like? How would you describe them?
Try it! Use 3 adjectives to describe Chang from last week’s story. Write it in your chart.

There are a few other things you can look at to find the motive as well.
The character’s thoughts.
The character’s words. Write one in your chart.

Synonyms: odd, irregular
Look at you partner and describe someone you may have meet who may looks eccentric.
RELENTED
A PERSON WHO HAS AGREED TO SOMETHING HE OR SHE ONCE REFUSED
Synonym: concede, cave in, surrender
“Fine, I’ll do it. “No, No, No.” “Ok, Fine.”
Tell your partner a time you relented to do something.
FAZE
BOTHER OR CONFUSESynonym: annoy, discomfort
“Huh?”
INFURIATED
TO FEEL EXTREMELY ANGRYSynonym: mad, furious
Look at your partner and make a face of a furious person.
DISHEARTENED
FEEL DISAPPOINTED AND LESS HOPEFUL
Synonym: crushed, depressed
