R&B. - Rhythm And Blues three letter abbeviation word. modern R&B is very stereotypical and contains the usual element of drinking campaigns ‘Living The Good Life’ wealthy, sexy and ‘Living The Dream’. The whole idea of the R&B genre is fashion, money, glamour, looking good, being sexy/appealing, and living the good life. In this specific genre there’s the idea of men being ‘Pimps’, men who wear casual suits, heavy chains, designer clothes and jewellery. The males goal is to attract and to get the sexy appealing females, and gain the attention of the women. This is normally the storyline of the R&B genre. The women's goal is to attract the males and are stereotyped as eye candy. This genre is originated from African American music in the 1940’s and has slowly changed over time into the African soul genre.

Punk – A hard drive of Rock ‘n’ Roll originated n the 1970s. Characterized by harsh lyrics attacking conventional society of popular culture; often expressing anger.It evolved In The USA later in London mid 1970’s. In the 1980 this style of music changed to and aggressive style of cock.Costume theme consist of funky T-shirts stripy shirts skinny jeans, and stereotypical punks would have spiky hair, very colourful sense of clothing, lots of piercings and dark heavy make-up. Rockers- This sub genre is very similar to the punk genre, it has similar elements of rock similar dress sense and make-up. However the Rockers style is more hardcore and serious; aggressive lyrics, drum beats and electric guitars.The old stereotypes of rockers is possessors a motorbike which symbolizes rock and heavy metal genres for instance sticking dark lighting bolt skulls and bones.21st Century now have dark styles of fashion E.g (black boots & jackets and red make up many piercing and tattoos). Hip-Hop & Rap – Culture started in the 1970’s and commonly based on elements of ‘Rapping’ ‘Free Styling’ , mixing beat boxing and scratching.In this sub-culture people use this genre To express political concerns and personal problems, political and society. Hip hop is automatically thought to be the ‘male’ genre of music however female rap/ hip-hop artist in the music industry is increasing rapidly, would wide, however, the location for this genre of music started in the Bronx, New York City in the 1970’s, it gained influences from African Americans with some Jamaican influence.Rap is the sort of music where there’s hardly any edited vocals (however Hip hop does include some editing techniques such as voice overs and software) and is simply just free-styling and rapping (rhyming words and sentences make the music) and beat Boxing. Hip hop artists usual dress to impress, glamour's and expensive. They wear big designer clothes, in music videos and on stage, awards ect. Jerks – Fairly recent type of sub-culture that originated in the USA. Commonly known n California where the has been and increase of people associating theme self with the jerk culture.The jerk culture produce music that contains elements of hip-hop and rap however it also contains modern fashion theme and a new type of lifestyle. In terms of fashion they wear skinny jeans, dunks, designer shades and glasses, they might be stereotyped as ‘Nerds’An example of this new sub-culture is ‘New Boyz & Rejeckz’

Gothic is referred to gothic rock or Goth, this sub-genre has elements of rock and punk, and was formed in the 1970’S. It grew from strong ties because there was English gothic and emerging past gothic music.Within the early 1980’s gothic genre was started to be recognised and was part of the punk genre. Gothic being a sub-genre of punk.A combination of dark colours clothing make up , and very depressing and violent lyrics. Gothic rock then gave rise to a broader subculture that included clubs, fashion and numerous publications that grew in popularity in the 1980s.

Indie Rock is a sub-genre of rock originated in the USA and UK in the 1980’s . The term is usually described as production and distribution of the independent underground music. Indie artists are maintaining and placing a premium control over there careers releasing record albums and singles independently. The history of Indie Music dates long back in 1960′s. The format of the music then was pop, rock and roll and a slight dash of R&B. The lyrics of the songs was inspired by peace, love and anti-war thoughts. There immerged some bands like "Velvet Underground". This was the band which could be considered as a real "Indie" band. They did everything regarding their album all on their own and created a difference in traditional music. They created songs comprising of almost everything belonging to that time

Pop (popular) music was developed in the 1950’s as alternative ‘Rock ‘n’ Roll’ and further rock music.Focusing of the record market the music was targeted mostly to the youth generation throughout simple love songs. These elements has remained consistent and has absorbed influences from most forms of music.

The first major pop stars as such were the crooners of the 1930s and '40s. Bing Crosby sold millions of records, as did Frank Sinatra (arguably the first modern pop star, with screaming teenage female fans - the bobbysoxers), and in Britain, Al Bowly.

Curiously, pop music charts as such didn't exist until 1952, when the first Top Twenty was recorded. It came at an interesting time, as "teenagers" really came into being

Jazz is a music genre originated from African American communities in the 20th century in the South America from a confluence of African and European music traditions. Jazz has charter music from 19th and 20th century American popular music. Jazz was mostly about the heart of the music not so much the lyrics most jazz songs had instrumentals thought the song or on a album an 4min track of just music. Heavy Metal is often known as rock music genre. Heavy Metal was developed in the late 1960s and early 1970s, mostly in the United Kingdom and the United States. Heavy metal was influenced by a genre called ‘blues’ and a genre called ‘Psychedelic rock. Psychedelic rock is a rock genre influenced by Psychedelic culture. It replicates and enhances life experiences of psychedelic drugs. Psychedelic rock emerged in the 1960’s among folk rock and blues-rock bands in United States and Britain.Heavy metal is traditionally characterized by loud distorted guitars, emphatic rhythms, dense bass-and-drum sound, and vigorous vocals.

The first heavy metal bands such as Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath and Deep Purple attracted large audiences, though they were often critically reviled, a status common throughout the history of the genre.

Funky house. Funky house is a new genre, mostly published in East London. Most funky house music is a mixture of grime&dubstep. The beat is catchy and easy to dance to. A lot of the songs are produced with a dance that goes along with the music lyrics this attracts the younger audience. Grime is a genre of urban music that first emerged in East London, England in the early 2000s, grime is a development of UK garage, dancehall, and hip hop.MajorFm.com was the first online station to support grime music & gave grime its first recognition to a international market.Grime was still at this point known as a number of other terms, including "sublow" (a reference to the very low bassline)Grime artist ware designer clothing, new era hats, Gstar (and other designers) jeans, adidas trainers, converse, Nike trainers. this attracts the younger teenagers known as 'youths' to the video and the genre. Reggae is a music genre first developed in Jamaica in the late 1960s. While sometimes used in a broader sense to refer to most types of Jamaican music. Reggae is based on a rhythmic style characterized by accents on the off-beat. Reggae music History began with Jazz. As Jazz swept across the globe with the help of radio broadcasts and records in the 1940s, Jamaica was not immune to the fever and bands began to spring up everywhere to entertain the tourists Reggae was an evolution of what had been happening in Jamaican music, and was the next evolutionary step up from the other types of Jamaican music that had been enjoyed before it. These styles were Ska, and rock steady.By the 1960s ska was the first unique style of music developed by the Jamaicans, giving them their own identity. The Jamaicans created Rock steady music, especially after one particular summer. This was a slowed down version of Ska meant that people didn't have to exert so much energy, so they could stay on the dance floor for longer The reggae genre was dominated by the African flag colours red, yellow/gold, and green. A lot of reggae artists are Rastafarians, some with dreadlocks and some without however this may have confused the younger audience with the stereotypes of a successful reggae artist is.

Bashment is a name for dancehall a type of Jamaican popular music which developed around 1979 .Bashment  meaning 'party'. In some parts of the Caribbean, Bashment is also sometimes used to denote a particularly good party.A lot of the lyrics are about money, party, having a good time, however you have the more emotion real life lyrics about poverty, loosing friends and family and childhood life. Some of the songs the bashment audience can relate to and this has contributed to the wide mass audience and popularity of the genre.Along with these elements bashment is well know for the dances that contribute to the songs such as, sassa step, hot wuk, Clarkes. Soca and calypso is a style of African-American music originated form Trinidad and Tobago and spread throughout the West Indies and small islands. Soca is a musical development of traditional Trinidadian calypso, from the 1960s. Strong elements of soca and calypso are also taken from the rhythms of chutney music, which is popular music originated in Trinidad and Tobago's large minority Asian Indians. Chutney music has also spread to other west indies islands such as Guyana.Soca and calypso music are world wide known for the Caribbean carnival experience and atmosphere. Every Caribbean carnival in United States, England, and Caribbean islands (Antigua, St.kitts&Neivis, Barbados, Trinidad and Tobago celebrates the black ethic carnival through soca. Soca and Calypso are two very high energy sets of music and are enjoyed by many.
