The main audience for NME magazine are in the age range of

16-24 and male, with an interest in indie and alternative music.

The focus of NME is generally rock, indie and alternativemusic, and this features widely throughout themagazine in aspects such as the gig guide, reviews ofnew releases, interviews with new bands/artists etc.

The ideology of this magazine is live gigs, new trendsand artists and interviewing the up and coming newartists. NME keep up with anything new that’shappening in the their genre of the industry. They alsolike to feature festivals as much as they can as this iswhere their target audience go, and what they likereading about.

The focus of Kerrang is metal, rock andnu-metal music, reflected by the bandsthat are featured and many other aspectsof the magazine.

The ideology of this magazine focuses onmetal/hard rock bands, including reviews ofgigs and albums, gig guide, news of the genrethat week and features/interviews with bands.From this magazine we instantly get a feeling ofrebelling against dominant mainstream viewsfrom the grungy colour scheme and images.

The focus of NME is for a large variety ofmusic genres and like to look back at artiststhat made it big in the past, and relive theirsuccess. They also love a story to cover aband coming back after being away for awhile, for example Green Day in the frontcover above. Q don’t just focus on oldermusic, they also like to feature upcomingartists that they feel their target audiencewould be interested in.

The ideology of this magazine is a mixlegends of music and new and upcomingartists. It covers a variety of genresincluding pop, rock, hip-hop etc. It’s aimedat people with a more sophisticated viewon the music industry, and the both thecontent and design reflect this by beingsleek and fairly intelligently written.

The audience for Q magazine is generally older than the audience for magazines such as NME and Kerrang. Q is aimed at an older generation of around 25+, but

can also target younger audiences as they do often feature new and upcoming

artists.
