First Music Magazine Analysis I decided to analyse Kerrang as that was the most-read magazine chosen by the people I interviewed. The eye-flow shape resembles a Z and is uninterrupted by any empty spaces (adding to the aesthetic appeal). Many images and little writing is probably appealing to their target audience as well. The technique of using the same font (apart from the masthead) but changing them slightly by giving them borders or erasing lines in the text is good so I might do that. All the text on the cover is exclusive, the majority of it

First Music Magazine Analysis

I decided to analyse Kerrang as that was the most-read magazine chosen by the people I interviewed.

All the text on the cover is exclusive, the majority of it naming all the bands that will appear in the magazine. This is obviously in the hope that they will attract more and more readers.

Photos:Every person on the cover is quite young, showing the magazine is targeted at teenagers/young adults. It is of a popular band to attract reader’s attention. The band members are placed at various distances from the camera affecting the coverlines and other images’ placements. It may be that each person was photographed separately then photo-shopped in together.

The models’ ranged expressions are amusing and convey their personalities, making the cover more interesting. Also, eye-contact in all the cover images draws the reader in.

All the photos of people use relatively the same angle to create balance.

Stands out and makes the reader feel like the magazine is jam-packed with information

First Music Magazine Analysis

Masthead is in front of the cover models at times, but mostly behind

The colours of the magazine cover are mostly white and grey, with bright red to make things stand out

Model credit, almost the same font size as the masthead. To catch the reader’s eye

“Inside” info seems like it’s really important

Exclamation marks make it seem like all the information is shouted, attracting the reader

More images attract the readers, they have coloured borders to stand out against the main cover image

Second Music Magazine Analysis

This music magazine seems to be for a different audience to Kerrang. The cover follows the rule of thirds and keeps all the text lined up, which Kerrang has purposely not done.

The cover-lines are actually about articles in the magazine, rather than just naming the people in it. Also, there is a sense of variety, due to the coverlines advertising both Lily Allen and Jimmie Hendrix who are contrasting (past/present, old/young, rock/pop).

Also, instead of only focusing on music they discuss clothes, movies, TV and Internet. I approve of this so I my magazine will have other media in it too though I’ll make sure to keep it music related (eg a film with a music artist in it or unsigned band’s websites).

Photos:The cover’s colours are brighter and the cover is generally is less crowded than Kerrang. The models have eye-contact with the reader, each conveying their own personality without feeling the need to make amusing faces. There are only two in the main image, and they are both quite old, suggesting that their target audience are probably 25+.

A sense of diversity is acheived by having models of different ethnicity and not conforming to on two colours.

The free CD will probably attract people, and the drawing on it is slightly seductive and simple, with a colour which contrasts with the other colours on the cover.

Primary colours and white are used, making the cover stand outSelling line(shows

they are popular and influences people to buy it)

Slogan (probably used on every issue)

This writing may have been better off white, as black is hard to read and disrupts the colour theme
