Assignment 1: Poses

Modeling 101:

A tutorial by Nat & Lena

Page 2: Modeling 101: poses

Pose player can make a big difference in an entry-

-so using it can really make your picture stand out!

Page 3: Modeling 101: poses

Installing Pose Player*Thank you, Kylie, for the installation tutorial!

Things you need:

Pose Player – http://www.modthesims.info/download.php?t=438706 (You can download both or just top one The bottom one is the pose list to keep things in

order, but some poses come with a pose list )

7-Zip – http://www.7-zip.org/download.html (for extracting zip files)

Page 4: Modeling 101: poses

Go to My Documents > Electronic Arts > Sims 3 (will be the same layout for PC or Mac)Then click this link

It’s a ready-made Framework Setup so you don’t have to worry about going wrong

Click “Save” or “Save As” and be sure to save into Documents/Electronic Arts/ Sims 3 folder that we opened up in the

first step

Now, Don’t worry about not having what I’ve got around my stuff- my framework is already set up and this is just in my computer’s downloads folder =) You can either use extract files or extract here, but make sure that the zipped file gets extracted to your sims 3 file.

Page 5: Modeling 101: poses

Once extracted, a new folder will come up called “Mods” as seen below.

Click on the Mods Folder, and make sure you have two folders and a file.

The folders should be called “Overrides” and “Packages” then the one file called “Resource.cfg”

And that’s how to set up you your framework for different mods you

may want to use in the future after installing Pose Player =).

There might be two files in there called nointro.package and nobuildsparkles.package that are there so you can test it, so just click on your game and press play on the launcher to try it out =)

Page 6: Modeling 101: poses

If you have already downloaded the pose player file, you need to extract it the same way you did with your framework setup, but

instead of extracting it to the Sims 3 Folder, you need to be in the Mods > Packages folder, then extract it into there.

The file should look like this if extracted correctly:

Now we need some poses to try this out with, so let’s try out

http://sims3imho.blogspot.co.uk/2012/03/7-poses-charming-by-imho.html IMHO is amazing and very safe and has been referred when it comes to poses.

Scroll down until you see the download button that looks like this

Page 7: Modeling 101: poses

Once downloaded, extract into the same folder as the pose player. Open up the folder that appeared when you extracted it, then bring

out the .package file and put it into your mods folders. Then you can delete the 7 poses- charming folder =)

The highlighted one is the one we’ve just put in. Now, before you start your game to try this out, go to the Sims 3

folder and clear your Cache

(CASPartCache,package, compositorCache.package, ScriptCache.package and SimCompositorCache.Package)

then open up your launcher and press play

Page 8: Modeling 101: poses

Once you're in game of your choice, go to buy mode. Instead of ‘Sort by Room’, click the one underneath (‘Sort by Function’)

The first thing you see (after EA selling things) is the clapboard that shows you have pose player.

Click on that and then place it where it won't be in the way of the photo and where you can see it.

In my photo, I put it by the side of pool quite away from the picture but just so I can zoom out and click on it.

Once placed, click on the clapboard again, and if you have a pose player list (which you should have) then click ‘Select Pose From List’

(otherwise you'll have to type the name in manually)

Page 9: Modeling 101: poses

A list should pop up after you click ‘Select Pose From List’Pick the pose you want, then press the tick after you clicked on the

pose.It will highlight the pose and bring up the tick.

Page 10: Modeling 101: poses

The tick has been clicked, and the list has gone. Now your model is in their pose!

Now feel free to play around with angles and zooming ^_^

*Again, thank you so, so much for this, Kylie! :D

Is Pose Player not working? Run through this checklist to see if you can solve the

problem:-Did you place the file in your Mods>Packages folder?

-Is the resource.cfg in your Mods folder?

-Is your game fully updated?

-Did you install the most recent version of pose player?

-Did you delete your .cache files?

Pose Player is sort of complicated, so there are a lot of reasons that it may not be

functioning correctly. If it is still not working, we will help you in any way that we can, so

please ask questions!

Page 12: Modeling 101: poses

Now that you (hopefully) have been able to download and experiment with poses, you can

use them to spice up your assignment entries!

Some poses can make your sim look a little glitchy, awkward, or a tid bit deformed, so even if you really like the pose, try to use

well-made ones.

Glitchy sims will hurt your score, but having a good pose can raise it significantly!

Assignment 1:

Show one thing about your model that defines her. You must make your model pose for this. However, you have to use an action pose. This means nothing you

could use for a bodyshot, as in not a standing and smiling pose. To ensure

that you follow the rules, you must post your pose pack and tell us the pose you are using, and we will tell you if that is

acceptable.

Example:

Selena has always wanted to be a dancer, and her dream is to play the lead in The

Little Mermaid ballet.

Have fun, and happy simming! :D
