The England 10 – She Likes To
Analysis of music videos
Video Analysis
For my third video, I chose to do ‘She Likes To’ by
the England 10 (J2k, Wrigley, Ice kid, Wretch 32,
Ghetts, Wiley, Bashy, Scorcher, Chipmunk and
Griminal)
Genre
The genre of this video is grime, as it involves the
‘hottest ten grime MCs in England.
This video limits its audience as the theme of it is
partying and girls, therefore an older
demographic wouldn’t be inclined to watch it.
It meets expectations of a grime video by
involving a lot of girls and alcohol.
Audience
The audience for this video would be a young
generation seen as a lot of partying is shown.
This video proves a party lifestyle to the viewers
which is what the artists would like to put across.
A group of mates with a lot of girls in a private
party.
Narrative
This linear storyline consists of a lot of people in a
party, drinking and dancing. Therefore, the theme
would be partying and girls. Each artist are
accompanied by many girls, insinuating that
being an artist will get you a pick of the girls.
Representation
Star image is constructed. As soon as the video
starts, the first artist (J2k) is shown holding a
bottle of champagne, therefore wanting to look
expensive. Also, the way all of the artists are
shadowed by girls shows they want to look like
they’re famous and have girls chasing them.
Male gaze is used by showing women dancing
throughout the video, close ups of their faces and
bodies whilst doing so.
Characteristics
A big characteristic in this video is the emphasis
on partying. Also, there is a lot of expensive
clothing shown in the mise-en-scene and this is a
big characteristic of grime videos.
Visuals/lyrics When J2k says ‘she’s got a bottle and she wants
to drink it’, it shows a close up of a champagne
bottle in ice therefore creating a link between
visuals and lyrics. Also, when he says ‘gets her
little hands on it’ he passes a champagne bottle
to a female character in the video.
Visuals/Music
All throughout the video, the song has a high
tempo, and the dancing is rapid. Although, it
shows a close up of Griminal at the end when he
raps a little bit slower than the rest. It cuts to him
with a girl without her dancing, differentiating
styles.
Artist There are a lot of long shots of the artists,
showing their background crowded with women, I
believe this to be their motif.
Intertexuality
An expensive champagne is used at the start of
the video. Also a phone is used in the video.
Voyeurism
The voyeuristic appeal in this video is shown
drastically by involving so many shots with
females in. Most of the scenes involves females
dancing and this is used to sell their product.
