In what ways does my media product use to challenge forms and conventions of real media productions • For my front cover I got the idea of the bright text

boxes from Kerrang magazine, who seem to use bright colours to catch the eye to the reader, on my magazine I used a purple banner going across the page, in the banner is the name of the band, Kerrang picture you see they have a yellow and another purple banner going across the page, I got the idea for the banner from Kerrang magazine, as you can see from the picture Kerrang has 2 banners going across the page.

• I have challenged my findings in my research, with the banners I have made them a dark purple colour that is also transparent, I made it like this because the banner is still eye catching, but it doesn’t take over the page, you still look at the rest of the page, rather than just the banner. I feel that Kerrang magazine front covers are too cluttered and messy, I felt it would be better to while still having enough information to know what the magazine is about, I would not put as much on the front cover as Kerrang do

In what ways does my media product use to challenge forms and conventions of real media productions • For my contents page I used my research from

the magazine Big Cheese. In Big Cheese magazine the writing is down the left side of the page, with the page number in black, main topic of the page in red, then a brief description of what's in the page is in black, I have used the same sort of style from Big Cheese for the writing on my contents page.

• Apart from the text on the contents page, everything else is different from other magazines I have seen, everything else on the page I have used to keep the same theme as the cover.

• I have kept the purple banner from my front page for the title in my contents page, I have also kept the same front for the title, I have also kept the same picture style, high contrast, black and white with splatter effects all over the picture.

In what ways does my media product use to challenge forms and conventions of real media productions

• What I took from magazines for my double page spread was, the box under where I typed I took from Kerrang, I thought it would be a good idea as you would be able to read what is typed, also the positioning of the text with the picture, I made sure the text is over far enough so it does not go over any of the people on the image, I made the title big and in your face which is like the title on the Kerrang double page spread.

• Ways I differ from research, I did not brighten the part of the image were the text is I darkened it instead, I used the same purple banner for the title of the page as I used on the cover and contents, the type of font is different than the cover and contents, I didn’t think that the same font would work on this page, I think the main reason that font worked was because of the style of picture that I used, the other pages images were more gritty, so I thought the gritty scribble looking font would work, as this is more smooth, I wanted a nicer font, but I still needed the rock/grunge vibe to it so I chose this font.

How does your media product represent particular social groups?

• I think that on the front page and contents page I have made the subjects look like more grunge/punk/rock, the splatter effect in the pictures really helped with this. I think that the double page spread image takes itself away from being more grunge by the colours in the pictures, I would consider it more grunge if there was more bland colours, but I wouldn’t call the colours bland, but also defiantly not bright as in the text I would really just consider this to have no genre, unless you would count that as alternative.

• i think that the text on the double page spread and to a certain extent the text on the front cover, the reason the text on the front cover represents the people in the pictures, is that “Steven And The Possetts” is a band that the people on the double page spread are in, and they also don’t really consider themselves to not really have a genre.

What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?• I would say that my magazine would be most

appropriate for Bauer media, as they seem to do a more varied style of music, Kerrang is rock, Mojo is classic rock and Q is more new music and indie, I think my magazine would work under Bauer media because my magazine is more grunge based, so it would be something that this media institution has not used before.

• I would sell them in print but also have iPad and iPhone apps, I would do this because the magazine industry is struggling to sell print copies, so having digital copies of a magazine in a digital age would seem like a good idea.

Who would be the audience for your media product?• I think the average age of the readers

of my magazine would be about from late teens to late twenties, I think that most of the readers would be male, their social background would cause them to be heavily passionate about music, in some cases they may to peruse music as their career, the main types of music would be rock music. They would have a very close group of friends who share the same values as they do, I think that the main region that would read this magazine would possibly sell best in the south west region like Bristol or Bath.

How did you attract/address your audience?

• I think that my magazine attracts the audience with the front cover the colour scheme that I used I think would be more appealing for people who like rock or grunge music, with the bright colours over the more bland colours that contain text.

• i think that the layout I have used my in my magazine would attract a certain audience, most things on the pages are all slanted nothing seems to be in line with each other it seems to give a feel of chaos, this would appeal to teenagers as they would be in the age of rebelling against their parents.

What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product?

• I think the Photoshop process that I learnt through creating the magazine was the use of “multiply” this makes what is on this layer more transparent depending on the colour, if something is white, it would become completely transparent, if is a colour it would be transparent but what ever is behind this picture will be the colour of the multiplied layer and if something is black then it wont make any change.

• I think the place where I best show my use of this effect is the front cover, the purple banners have been multiplied, the back ground picture and the picture in the top left corner has been multiplied to make it look like it is behind the background picture.

Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to the full product?• I have been able to put more on the page and have

been able to look neater, I think that my editing skills have improved from the preliminary to the main task. On the main task there are things that do catch your eye but not to in your face, but on the preliminary task, there are things that catch your eye, but that’s because they are in your face and simply don’t really look nice.

• I think that the main task background picture is much better, the preliminary task the picture looks very washed out because there is not enough contrast in the picture, in the main task I brought the contrast up, but I brought it up more so it would look more like a painting, this is why I used the splatter effect as well, I the painting effect does give the magazine a more rock vibe to it.
