In what ways does you media product use, develop or

challenge forms and conventions of real media products?• My music video both uses and challenges

some usual conventions of music videos, i say this because my music video is of the band playing live, not something regularly seen in a music video anymore, but at the same time my music video uses conventions being cut in time with music whilst also using the 3 second rule.

Using Andrew Goodwins theory of music video analysis is it easy to see

that my music video complies with many of his concepts?

• The first of his theorys being that the video should demonstrate genre characteristics, my video does not really do this as it was films at one live concert how ever the music video does represent certain things about the band, for example they are a very rough around the edges band, so i shot everything using a handheld camera in order to get that effect.

• The next of Goodwin's theory's are that there should be a relationship between the lyrics and the visuals, the song i have done is about 2 men who have met before who have a hatred for one another and because i shot this at a live concert there is no link to them what so ever.

Page 7: Media Eval

• Goodwin's third of his theory's is that there should be a link between the music and the visuals this again was difficult to do as I shot this at a live concert however the best way i could do this is when it came to editing the video, i made the cuts as steady as possible because the song isn't the most fast paced song.

• The last of Goodwin's theory’s is that the video should go along with conventions set by the record label in other videos that they have shot, this was completely impossible for me as the band i did are unsigned, so i basically went of instinct in shooting my live video.

• Over all i think that my video challenges all of these theorys in the sense that it does not really go along with any of them it just shows signs of some of them .

• I felt that it was important that my album art and poster related to one another so that the audience could easily recognise the two really easily and relate them to one another in order to create synergy.

• In order to make them similar , i took features from the album cover including the obvious stuff such as the logo, this adds the extra little bit of similarity between the two making them both similar and recognisable.

ALBUM COVER ANALYSIS

My album cover consists of only the band logo an image which gives across the idea of an equalizer, the name of the album. And the parental advisory label.

The equalizer effect on the cover represents the current situation in the music industry, at the bottom being a stronger colour than at the top because it used to make a lot of money, but as the years have gone by the money intake has drastically gone down due to illegal downloading and pirate copying.

The zoom blur effect i added to the logo is to show that the band are a quick and upcoming band that mean business, the equalizer also is like a crowd then the logo is in white to show that the band stand out from the crowd.

I made the album cover as simple as possible so that it would represent the country the band are from, England, hence the title of the album “ this nation” it gives a kind of what you see is what you get kind of image about the band.

What have you learned from the feedback you had received from your

audience?• I found that after i had gathered feedback

from my audience after creating my first set of products there points were quite valid, “ it doesnt really like to the music” “it doesnt look like a music poster”, on the next slide i will post my first music poster and my first couple of album covers, i took these points and developed on them in order to come up with my final products.
