Lyric Analysis/Initial Ideas for Storyboarding First Verse Working on a puzzle, the pieces of your mind. Your lies are unstoppable, your looks are undefined. I can’t even talk to you, my friends would kill me dead. My only vision of you is sprawled across my bed. In the first verse I think that there should be storyline shown to the audience in order to allow them to relate to the lyrics. Also in support of this idea is the fact that the song only has two verse’s, meaning that there is limited opportunity for storyline style shots. However due to the audience and product research I feel that an ‘intro’ to the video may be the best option as this would establish the band and there were no strong objections to music video’s having introductions from the target audience. Key words/phrases to be emphasised in the video through mise-en- scene. Here is the first opportunity to introduce the actress – location needs to be established before this. This could be shown visually as a woman whispering into a mans ear. Here is the where the location for the storyline needs to be introduced. A club environment would be the most appropriate. This could be shown to audiences as a man arguing or telling another man. Here the lyrics create imagery to the audience, when combined with the camera this could be the most powerful part of the verse. Also the taboo nature of the imagery created could actually support the genre conventions and has potential to increase audience appeal when the target audience is considered. A shot of two tablets being swallowed should be at the end of this verse.

Lyric Analysis/Initial Ideas for Storyboarding First Verse

Working on a puzzle, the pieces of your mind.

Key words/phrases to be emphasised in the video through mise-en-scene.

‘Cause I am the victor you cannot mess with me,

I’ll put you in your place my dear for everyone to see,

So keep on talking the talk and I will fight the fight,

So do what you want my love but your coming home with me tonight…

Coming home with me tonight.

Lyric Analysis/Initial Ideas for Storyboarding Chorus (1)

In this first chorus the lyrics describe the thoughts of an individual. Their are clearly thoughts of lust and maybe even arrogance. These enhanced feelings of attraction and confidence are the effect of alcohol and drugs on what are already strong human emotions. This chorus should be shot as performance with cuts back to storyline in order to emphasise certain lyrics.

This should be shot back to the storyline in order to keep up the audiences view of the woman and to break up a long performance shot.

Here the actress should be seen again as the lyrics are about her and I feel that more emphasis is created by the audience having a visual image of her, alongside the lyrics being stressed by the song.

Trekking over boundaries, into enemy lines.

These Gary's are taking effect, I’m tripping out of my mind.

Is this love? Or a little psychosis...

I’m on top of my game, I’m the champion of this.

Camera spinning/ erratic, possibly blurred. Enhanced colours in waves. In a crowd, walking through a club.

Here the lyrics describe the man ‘making his move’ and approaching the woman. From where he has been sitting.

Lyric Analysis/Initial Ideas for Storyboarding Chorus (2)

Camera should steady and regain focus on the actress.

Key words/phrases to be emphasised in the video through mise-en-scene.

This second verse is the verse where the editing and camera really needs to be used to maximum effect to give the video impact. The lyrics are of a taboo nature and the way in which the lyrics describe actions and people could be deemed as derogatory towards women as the song in some ways objectifies them. However I think that the camera and editing could be used to almost lesson the theme of objectifying women and ultimately give appeal to the secondary audience of young women.
