Location Scouting

Page 2: Location scouting

Introduction. As part of planning for our music video we need to look for suitable location's to set our in. To do this we have looked at other artist videos and also looked around our current location in where we live.

We need to have a location where it suits the vibe of our music and somewhere the artist can relate to when performing in the video. Our genre is jazz/folk/acoustic and we want to create a summer and old school theme. The locations will have to be outside or in a some kind of music shop as we feel these places will be good to present our theme.

With our locations we want it to stand out and be cheesy as that what we intend to do in our video. This means it need to be free and fresh to show the freedom within the performers.

City's.

Our first location that we looked at in my group is cities. Cities can be very busy and can be a lot of collision but looking at them when they are quiet creates a different perspective. When looking at this picture of gentleman's walk in Norwich it shows a calm life. The natural light coming though the trees emphasis the summer season and I think from the light we can show our target audience all the natural life we have in the world.

I like how it is opened spaced which means we could explore the whole area in order to create that positive feeling that we want to portray.

Beaches. Another location is beaches and there are some positive and negatives with having this location for our video. The picture was taken at Cromer.

Firstly looking at all the positive:It’s a traditionally place to go for the summer with friends and families. In the song we have chosen we will be looking at the friendship and this location will show a good connection between the friends due to the tradition.I think from our video we will be able to have fun with it and make the cheesy parts of the song really cheesy as we can use different camera angles to show the emotion in the star image and other participants. The colours that have been created are bright and will contribute to the costumes theme that we are wanting to have.Negatives of the beach:The lighting isn't always sunny it can get misty a lot which would have an effect on the emotion that we want to get across. If we were to record some of our video on a beach we would need it to be sunny to give that summer vibe We wouldn’t want the beach to busy as people might get confused and lose focus on what happening and plus people may not want to be recorded. If we were to do this then it would have to be late evening or in a quiet if we could find one

We were inspired by Cimorelli locations on one of their music videos. They have set it on a beach when the sun is setting which creates a very cold and peaceful environment. I think this is very positives towards their emotions. The sound effect that the sea creates in the background I think will help towards the meaning of the song and the freedom there is.

RoadsRoad trips are becoming very popular for friends to go out with each other. I think a location like this would be very good for camera angles as you can show view of the car, out of the window and behind the car.

I think this location in a car would be good to show the lip syncing and also the wind going through the car. When seeing things like that it always remind me of America and going down them long road and I think it would have the same impact on other people to create different locations from others.

With most of the locations we are going to make sure that it is sunny otherwise it wont look effective to what we have planned.

Alleys/ Streets

Small alleys are quite effective to set a location for a music video. In Eliza Doolittle she has alleys she makes the alleys look modern and by filming down the alleys and editing after wards I think we could make them more of a positive locations.

The alleys we have in Norwich with the shops would make the vibe better than a plain alley as there is more going on. Most of the old fashion and old school shops are located here so we could possible record in the shops.

Carnival/ Streets

A carnival location would add towards the summer vibe and also to the bright theme. All of the attractions that would be involved would make the target audience want to be a part of the fun. I think they would be able to picture themselves in the positions.

The colour scheme would be very vibrant and bright so it would stand out and evoke a smiley feeling.

In the picture the banners above decorate the place up so if we are unable to record at an actually carnival we could

Pavement/Road

Location: Town house road.We have chosen the location of a path as it fits in well with Goodwin's theory of “lyrics and visuals”. Also the tree surrounding the path are good to the vibe we want to create. This will be created by sun coming through the trees and it will create summery and the upcoming of the fall. I think it will add a positive outlook on the performer and make the theme upbeat and bright. I think by having a originally setting where most people wall(on a path) it will create a different interpretation than just a boring path and add some character towards the location.

Village Sign Location: Myrtle Ave ( Costessey Village sign)We have decided to have the village sign as part of our locations as it reflects community and working together. This the connection we want to have between the friends and make the audience place their friendship in the performers place. Looking at the picture of the location its very calm and relaxing and will show freedom. By having the performer is a meaningful and quiet location it will stand out and make the lyrics bold.

Field

Location: Field in CostesseyWe have chosen a field to be in our video because people look at them as just a piece of land in which farmers use. We want to be able to bring life to the setting and make it a happier and positive location. We will mainly be using this for our chorus and as we will need a lot of space this location will work well with our plans. The colours in the field are very summer and green which gives off a fresh feeling to the environment.

Inspiration- Miz and LizThe trees to the right screen shot is a low angle looking up and it create the autumn feel. This is similar to what we want to create but for a summer vibe. Also the blue sky helps to a positive and vulnerable feel toward the artist.

This is similar to our road and pavement scene as we want to sun rays to be coming through the trees. In the screenshot the sun adds a positive feeling and creates a good bond between the girls and the friendship in which they have

This field was our biggest inspiration as its in a fields and this is where all the upbeat action will happen. I like how their friendship is set free and they are able to do what they like with out any rules.

I like the way that the screenshot is blurred about as it shows that their friendship is their own and that it is strong. The colours are pastel and calm for the vibe and the sun rays create the warm feeling to the video.
