JUNO
Juno gives you a sneak peek into the world of teens where you are
growing out of dolls and delving into life’s realities.. where
everything even sex is more a curiosity than
choice, writes
Hiral Sachde
Juno Macguff gets pregnant after her first sexual
encounter with her best friend Pauline Bleeker.
She takes an unconventional decision of not aborting the baby but giving it up for adoption.
She manages to
find an upper
middle class DINK couple Vanessa and
Mark Loring
She then informs her father and stepmother
about her pregnancy and the plan ahead The way she breaks the news to her parents is slang to the extent of being called crass but it infuses good laughs throughout
Soon Juno’s father and Juno meet
up with would-be parents of her child in
the presence of
their
attorney
After finalizing it all, through
frequent visits to the couple Juno
almost develops a crush on the
prospective father who is an ad film music composer
and an unsuccessful
rockstar.
On the other hand, Vanessa
is shown extremely
desperate to have a baby
and is worried that Juno
might develop cold feet and
she would never get to
be a mother
She bravely bears the coldness of
schoolmates when she continues to
attend school while pregnant. Her various
descriptions of her physical and mental
state are very funny
Michael Cera’s character is a
tongue in cheek remark. He is a mint-munching
mamma’s boy and school athlete aptly described by Juno’s
father “Never thought the guy was capable of
this.”
Teen pregnancy issue has been handled with sensitivity but is nowhere forbearing or
taxing. As a viewer I never felt anything but protectiveness for Juno and in the least bit
sorry. The movie gives you a sneak peek into the world of teens where you are growing
out of dolls and delving into life’s realities… where everything even sex is more a
curiosity than choice.
