NARRATIVE ASPECTS

In the first section of the music video, the audience are led to believe that it operates in real time which takes place in a bowling alley environment. It is apparent in the beginning it is a convergent narrative due to having the singer and the female character meeting in a bowling alley so the audience get the impression that they are going to meet. This is shown through the mid angle shots as it goes back and forth between the two characters.

The implication for the audience is that the mid angle shots shows the protagonists looking at each other

After watching on, the audience finds that it is actually an Enigma Code as the female character and singer don’t actually meet at that point because she is with another man. This leaves the audience questioning on whether the female character and the singer will ever meet. Bathos is used in this section of the video as the singer is seen to be high up as he seen portrayed as a good bowler. But as soon as the female character walks in and seen with the other man, everything enters a period of social decline.

NARRATIVE ASPECTS

In the beginning of the music video the audience see the main male character and believe he will end up with the girl but then the audiences minds are changed when we see the girl with another male who seems more popular. The end of the music video had an ironic ending as the main male does actually end up with the girl were bathos is used again, as the popular guy is shown to be low down as he looses the girl.

LYRICS AND VISUALS

The lyrics in the song are often linked very noticeably to the visuals; an example of where this is shown is when the lyrics say “I love the way she bites her lip” and then we see the main female character bite her lip.
