How to Bet On
BasketballPresented by: NBASportsBetting.com.au
NBASportsBetting.com.au knows that Australians love basketball, and there are very few games that are as exciting to bet
on.
In this guide we break down the basics and give you an idea as to what to
expect when you wager on the worlds biggest basketball league.
Basketball is one of the easiest sports to bet on, and at the sports book endorsed by NBASportsBetting.com.au we’ve ensured
that you always have access to great odds and a variety of markets.
Basketball makes use of point spread betting for wagering on teams as well as
over/under numbers and moneylines. If you are familiar with football betting, you’ll find
that betting on basketball is much the same.
Point Spread
Points spread betting is the most popular type of basketball wager and this is best explained as the handicap that a sports book imposes
on a team in order to make both teams equal. The NBA team that is expected to win will be the favourite and the team that looks set to
lose, the underdog.
In points spread betting the team that is expected to win will give points to the
underdog, for example, if the Knicks are playing the Celtics, the Celtics would be
the favourite.
A point spread of 10 would be awarded, meaning that the Celtics would have to
win by 11 or more points in order for a bet to be winning. If the Knicks won the game
or lost by less than 9 point, anyone betting on them would win.
Overs/Unders
The second most popular betting method for NBA games is betting totals, which is also
known as overs/unders. You’ll find these bets available at all the top rated sports books
suggested by NBASportsBetting.com.au and many punters find them even easier to
understand than spread betting.
When betting under/overs you’ll be wagering on a total of points scored by both teams
combined. A number is provided and bettors simply have to wager on whether they think the score will be over or under this amount. If, in a game between the Celtics and the
Knicks, the over\under number give is 184, bettors who wager the score combined will be over, will win if the game ends and the total
combined points exceed this number. If betting on under, the score must be 183 or less in
order for a bet to be won. If the score is exactly 18, the bet is a push
or tie and no money is won, or lost.
MoneyLine Bets
Betting on totals or on points spread make up the majority of NBA bets placed at
NBASportsBetting.com.au recommended sites, but there’s also the option to place moneyline wagers. This is to bet on the
winner of the game with no point spread.
Because some teams are shoo ins to win. Moeyline bets make use of odds and often, you’ll have to risk considerably more than you stand to win. Moneyline odds will look
like this:
Celtics -300Knicks +260
This means that if you are betting on the Celtics you’ll need to wager $30 to win $10,
and if you bet on the Knicks, you’ll wager $10 to win $26.
Teasers & Parlays
Also known as exotic bets, teasers and parlays are slightly more complex and involve
predicting the winners of more than one game. With parlays bettors can bet against
the point spread or moneyline, and in teasers, betting is only against the point spread.
The one catch with teaser and parlay bets is that all your predictions must be correct in
order for you to win
If one of the teams you have bet on loses, your bet is forfeited. Even if you pick 5 out of 6
winning teams correctly, that one loss renders the bet unsuccessful.
Parlay and Teasers can be risky but when they come to fruition, they can be incredibly
rewarding.
Now you can see how easy betting on NBA games really is.
But before you get started, remember to always do your research, check how a team
has performed recently, whether players have been injured and any other factors that
may affect the outcome of your wagers.
