Body Horror
In which the horror is principally derived from the graphic destruction or degeneration of the body. Other types of body horror include unnatural movements, or the anatomically incorrect placement of limbs to create 'monsters' out of human body parts.
Examples;
Cabin Fever, The Invasion and Virus.
Psychological Horror
Relies on characters' fears, guilt, beliefs, eerie sound effects, relevant music, emotional instability and at times, the supernatural and ghosts to build tension and further the plot.
Examples;
Paranormal Activity, The Blair Witch Project, The Sixth Sense and The Others.
Slasher
Often revolves around a psychopathic killer stalking and killing in a sequence of victims in a graphically violent way, mainly with weapons such as knives.
Examples;
A Nightmare of Elm Street, Texas Chainsaw Massacre and Halloween.
Zombie
Zombie films feature creatures who are usually portrayed as either reanimated corpses or mindless human beings.
Examples;
Shaun of The Dead, Dawn of The Dead, Zombieland and I am Legend.
DecisionAs a group we have decided to create a psychological
horror.
Why?
It’s an interesting concept for a film. There is also a lot of ideas we can use for this specific genre.
What?
Paranormal disturbances such as unexplained interaction with objects.
Example environments and conventions
Teenagers, haunted house, unexplained phenomena, insanity, asylums, woodland areas and mental health issues
Conventions
Objects
Door’s and windows opening by unseen force, lights flashing, furniture moving and technology not working.
Threat/antagonist
Creepy, old, physically and mentally scarred, ugly, apparition, mental patients.
Victim/victims/protagonist
Innocent, weak, cautious, feminine, young, logical, no common sense, usually female but subverts stereotype, previous history of mental illness (depression),
Target audience
Teenagers and adults.
Why?
From our research into horror films, we found out the content that is presented in the trailers is rated at either 15 or 18 years of age. Therefore the content in our trailer, which will follow a similar style to already existing horror film trailers will have to be aged at 15. Due to the dark context of the trailer it would be inappropriate for a younger audience.
