Slasher / Horror A slasher film is a subgenre of horror film and also thriller . Most slasher / horror films involve the mysterious killers who are also known as psychopaths and stalkers . These characters are known for killing and abusing victims such as young females and young groups of teenagers , when killed they are killed in a graphically manner . The killer normally uses a cutting tool such as a knife ,saw or an axe .

A slasher film is a subgenre of horror film and also thriller .

Horror is a genre which reveals and presents a negative emotional reaction from viewers by playing on the audiences primal fears .Horror films usually include supernatural themes , however horror also overlaps with fantasy and thriller.

Horror is also known for the negativity it portrays to the audience. With horror that deals strongly with the viewers nightmares and hidden fears and also unknown terror .

In the 1920s a number of technicians and directors were from Germany , the Germans had moved from Germany to Hollywood in order to make there skills more known and advanced. Murnau one of the undisputed masters of silent camera , came to Hollywood to make sunrise which was in1927 after directing his own version of Jekyll and Hyde which was in 1920 and Faust in 1926.

In the ninetieth century audiences enjoyed seeing ghosts captured in still photography and magic lantern shows , the images were surreal. It was natural to the audiences that the techniques of superimposition would be transferred to the new technology in order to tell fantastic stories

One of the very first horror film on record is Le Manoir Du Diable (1896) which was created in France by Georges Melies this was one of the earliest visionaries that he had made . The film has a running time of a little over three minutes , however this film manages to pack the genre conventions such as bats devils , witches cauldrons , ghosts trolls all appearing and disappearing the puffs of smoke .

Universal studios entered a age of monster movies in the 30’s after making many horror movies beginning with Dracula and Frankenstein in 1931 and including freaks and a Spanish version of Dracula that is often thought to be well known and interesting in the English version. Germany continues to make great artistic films in the early 30’s with Vampyr and the Fritz Lang Thriller. The 30’s had witnessed the first American werewolf film (The werewolf in London ) the first zombie movie (White Zombie) and the landmark special effects blockbuster King Kong.

In the 1940s universals monster movie formula became well known and started growing in different ways Less effort and artistry was put into the resulting films being made in the 1940s Films such as The Wolf Man (1941) Dracula , the Mummy and House of Frankenstein all became so similar example if one monster is scary four must be four times as scary , like so many films it got tired less artful and more cynical.

The early 1900s brought more excitement to the horror film genre , with The silence of the Lambs sweeping the major academy in 1992. Success seemed to spur studious into funding large scale horror themed projects. In1996 Screams runaway success sparked the slasher flame producing similar films such as “ I know What You Did Last Summer. Asian horror films like Ringu and Audition became a new influence on American Fright flicks .

• The 21st century horror in the US has been identified with remakes of both American Friday the 13th , Halloween and the Dawn of the Dead and also foreign films such as the Grudge and The Ring . There are great varieties of edgy spooky materialised films as there has ever been in the genre. Example from Canada Ginger Snaps , France High Tension and Spain The Orphanage and also the Uk 28 Days later .
