Get off my land
Directed and Produced by:Douglas Ray
Main Character
• The main character in this short film is the first young man we see, also the boyfriend/husband of the young woman.
• The shots are more focused on him as a character and the dialogue is mainly either between him and the ‘farmer’ or his girlfriend/wife.
Circular Narrative
• The circular narrative is very subtle in this short film, which is the country atmosphere which is present throughout the beginning and end.
• For example: the sounds of the nature around and the peace and tranquillity at the beginning and end.
Catalyst
• The catalyst is also very subtle as it becomes clear that it is the wobbly gate at the beginning which the male character struggles to climb over.
• The idea that the male character struggles foreshadows his later death.
Audience Expectations
• The audience expectations are played with at the end as it becomes clear that the man who seems like a ‘farmer’ is not who he claims to be and is in fact a murderer.
• After claiming that the couple are ‘on his land’ he then kills both of them.
• He then reveals to the audience that it isn’t actually his land.
