“Chowanego” – Hide and Seek“Chowanego” – Hide and Seek – a very

popular game. The one who was seeking was counting or saying a counting-out rhyme. After finishing counting, usually to a hundred, the player shouted “I’m seeking!” and was looking for the other players. Those who were able to hide and not be seen waited for a moment when they could run to a place where there was counting and shouted “One, two three, for me!”

Cymbergaj“Cymbergraj” – this was a kind of football

match using a comb and coins. A desk was a football pitch. By hitting a coin (a footballer) with a comb players aimed to score the goal.

“Dwa ognie” – Dodgeball“Dwa ognie” or “Zbijak” – Dodgeball – two

players stand in front of each other(on two sides of a pitch), between them there are other players who have to move or dodge in order not to be hit by the ball thrown by the opponent player. When the ball hits one of the players, he or she is out, but when the ball is caught, there is a chance for ‘revenge’.

“Guma”“Guma” – a children’s

game in which you jump over a stretched elastic band. The game was mainly played by girls. The elastic band was stretched between two girls and the other ones had to do different jumps over this elastic band until they made a mistake.

The jumps were made on different heights, such as ankles, calves, knees, thighs, waist, etc. The game of full emotions.

“Kapsle” – Bottle Caps“Kapsle” – Bottle Caps – a cult game played

outdoors. By flicking with fingers at bottle caps children made those caps go forward. It was supposed to be a “Race of Peace”, a famous cycling race in Eastern Europe in the 70’s and 80’s. The game was played everywhere, eg. on sand or on a pavement.

There was a special track, the players flicked three times with their bottle caps. The caps could not go out of the track. The cups had their own flags of different countries. The winner was whose cap reached the finishing line.

“Klasy” – Hopscotch“Klasy” – Hopscotch – one of the most

popular game among girls. A game in which children hopped into and over squares marked on the ground to get a stone thrown into one of these squares.

“Piłkarzyki” – Little footballers“Piłkarzyki” – Little footballers – a table

game where lines of little footballers were fixed to metal poles, the poles were moved by players, a table tennis balls was used in this game. The purpose was to score the goal. Even four players could play in one team

“Zośka” – Sophie“Zośka” – Sophie – a ball of wool

was flicked up with a foot or a leg. Inside the ball there was a piece of lead to make it heavier. The more the ball was being flicked up, the better. Different techniques were used to make the ball go up. It was played individually, in pairs or in groups.
