THE OUTCOME OF THE RELATION BETWEEN TRADITIONAL MEDIA, LIKE GLOSSY MAGAZINES, AND NEW DIGITAL TECHNOLOGIES. problem presented in the video "Sofie Spindler Glossies"

Sophie Spindler asked very awkward question: is the medium really still the message? It refers to the very famous statement of McLuhan, the media researcher who concentrate in this many works on the relationship between media and their public.

She asks also how have the new digital, interactive media influenced, pushed and reinvented the structure of classic magazine form.

In my literature review I will try to concentrate on the question of the outcome and results of relationship between traditional glossy magazines and new digital and interactive media.

closer look at the situation of printed press, news papers: the newspaper industry has been hit very seriously over the past several years

In general speaking we can say that the emerge of the Internet, brought not only the advantages but also became a big problem and the competition for traditional and classic media

Does the future of glossy magazines, and magazines industry will be the same?

Do they have to share this prognosis?

Many researches indicate that still people mostly use digital media for entertainment purpose and are used to trust in more traditional media, like papers. It is very similar with the glossy magazines, where vast majority of people prefer to read the hard copies of magazines, than strive for the content via the Internet

position which illustrated magazines really occupy among the other kind of media

We should consider and perceived glossy and illustrated magazines as w new-old media, which is somewhere between the old media, like radio, newspaper, and new media like computer and the Internet

There are plenty of magazines, like I.D magazine, Gourmet, Vibe magazine, Portfolio, Blender, which quit print under the pressure of new media and recession of advertising revenues

So, is there any formula, which would guarantee the success?

general look of glossy magazines:for many readers fact of holding their favorite product in their hands is definitely more valuable then scrolling through the Web site

The magazines like Vogue, National Geographic, Women’s Health, People, Cosmopolitan, Esquire, which long time ago stopped operate as a illustrated magazines, but operate as a brands and marks it selves

online equivalent of paper glossies should not be better and undetermined printed product but provide users with new way of active participation

Ability and willingness to create such a digital supplements and websites which will not compete with a physical content, but enrich it and make more complete.

Many digital media products are just other, different version based on the old analogue media (websites and weblogs).

But is it really danger for paper glossy and illustrated magazines?

The supplements which we can witness nowadays, so websites which provide people with possibility to communicate and create special communities of fans and readers, chats rooms, on-line shopping, extras published on the web sites or added to printed version, serve to attract their current content to audience and solidifies their relationship to the magazines

The digital version of glossy magazines seems to be a new solution and interesting future replacement for traditional glossies.

The aim of my proposal research: prove the importance and vitality of glossy

magazine examine the attitude readers toward the

glossies

First part: Research should specify the possible surveyed

people, women who love read glossy magazines special web site, responsible to promote research

among the people, and inform about the aim of research

fill the form to check what is their attitude toward the glossy magazines genre

Second part - content analysis: User will be asked to compare the same

content of the traditional paper version and of the digital version of glossy magazine

Surveyed people will be ask to express their opinion about this two forms of glossy magazine, point out the positive and negative sides of using particular medium to read glossy content
