1. In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

Page 3: Evaluation Question 1

Conventions

From my research I could see that film posters and magazines follow their own forms.

Film Posters have a; title, image, credits and a tagline.

Film Magazines have a; title, image, puff, barcode and advertisement other other articles.

When creating my products it was important to think about the conventions of film products that were already on the market.

Creating a product and breaking codes is possible but to make them more authentic it is better not to break them unless here is a clear reason for doing so.

Use of ConventionsThe different products follow conventions in different ways.

My trailer is conventional by being theatrical and 2 minutes long.

My trailer also advertises the company producing it. I started my trailer with this and like professional trailers made my ident for my company easy to view.

Music and clips are conventional by being edited. Rather than slot clips and music in and leaving them, I used edited them. With my clips I added effects and transitions which the film industry regularly uses.

With my music I made the loudness of it different in different places. When an important voiceover came along I slightly quieten music so the voice can be heard.

Use of Conventions

My poster conforms to the codes by having a title, tagline, ident, image and credits.

I followed the code of having my title at the top and credits at the bottom. This meant I could have most of the image in between making it easily visible.

Challenge ConventionsBoth my poster and my magazine challenge conventions by having very small amounts of colour on them. They are both very dark which is quite unusual.

In my trailer I have one scene where a flash effect is used when the man gets hit. I did this to show the violence of the attack.
