Introducing the main protagonist and

the setting.

U In my film I introduced my main protagonist through the the use of an

establishing shot. Where the audience establish the setting and the main

character of the film.

Music creates the mood. D The music was melancholy and made you feel sadness for the character it

also sets the tone for the film. And fits in with the genre. It also creates

enigma of what the film will be about.

Titles that fit in with the film to

introduce the key people within making

of the film

U The titles are in the same order as a conventional film. The titles are in a

good position in the film so that we can clearly see it but not obstruct the

filming. We used the color white as it is clear to see in every shot

Setting being established U In my opening we first do a long shot of the character standing at the

bridge on top of the water you can see the environment quite clearly. Also

we have lots of different shots showing the character on the high street this

establishes that it will be set in a city in quite a busy area.

Q2. How does your media product represent

particular social groups

In our opening sequence we show a teenage girl who has a mental illness, therefore she represents lots of different social groups, these are gender, age and people who suffer from a mental illness. But it mainly focuses on the age group and her mental illness and the title sequence doesn’t represent gender.

We represent this in a negative way but we also get the audience to sympathise with the character and see what they have to suffer through. We used the setting of Camden town which most young people will go to, but more the misbehaved teenagers will visit, the environment looks quite rough and unique. The public toilets look grubby and dark this represents how the character is feeling. What the character is wearing represents that she is different as her style is unique, which represents that her illness makes her different. The music represents her sadness and due to her mental illness and which represents people who do have them suffer. The close up of the character taking the pill shows that it is significant to the film and also represents that teenagers and mentally ill may resort to drugs. Also the mid shot of the character slamming the toilet door shut so that we can’t see her represents how young people and people with mental health issues are closed off from the world and we don’t truly understand them.

Q3. What kind of media institution might

distribute your media product and why?

For my media product I chose vertigo films as it is a

British independent film production and distribution

company.

And our film would be a British Independent film.

It also has a films that target more young people and has

also got more popular in the past 5 years.

Q4. Who would be the audience for your

media product?

The target audience for our film would be young people

as the main character is a teenager. It also features drugs

and lots of young people are exposed to them .

It also targets people who like psychological thrillers and

films that make you think.

I thought I would give it a 15 certificate as we would

include swearing and features drugs. But as it is aimed at

younger people I did not give it 18.

Q5. How did you attract/address your

audience

I used a main character that was the same age as the target audience so its easier to relate to the character and film.

I also used clothes that are in fashion yet still unique and what my target audience my wear so this would appeal to my audience.

I also featured mental illness and drugs in our film so this would attract the people who like physiological thrillers and want to see why she was like this.

Our product also caused enigma which made it more attractive to our audience who maybe like mystery.

Q6. What have you learnt from technologies from

the processes of constructing this product?

First I learnt how to use the camera equipment. How to set up the tripod and also film the shots with the camera. I also learnt how to use a dolly when filming a tracking devise. I also learnt how to use a microphone to record my directors commentary.

Then I learnt how to use final cut express, I learnt how to import my film onto the software and onto the computer. I learnt how to cut out and put in order my film. I also learnt how to add titles onto my film and change the color and font of the words. I also learnt how to fade in and fade out my titles to make my film look more professional.

Finally I learnt how to import music onto my film on the final cut express software. I also learnt how to use garage band when trying to chose what music I wanted for my film. But decided to get non copy right music.

Q7. Looking back at the preliminary task,

what do you feel you have learnt in the

progression from it to the full product?

Looking back at all the work I have done I have learnt lots of different skills. My continuity exercise taught me that 360 rule. It also taught me that it was easier to plan my camera shots before filming which I didn't do the first time I tried to film it, and it went wrong.

When editing my opening film, I learnt lots of different skills, I learnt how to use final cut express and how to make my film look more professional.

When I did an exercise of copying a extract of a TV programme showing loads of different shots I learnt how to use the camera to make the different shots.
