East enders opening creditsEvaluation
How do you know which soap this is?It has a distinctive opening
picture of the Thames, and a very recognisable theme tune which everyone recognises as the eastenders theme tune. The opening drums at the start tell you straight away what soap it is and the depressing piano music is very famous and it is always linked to eastenders and part of its identity
How do you know where it is set?You can tell by the opening
picture of the river Thames which is a famous landmark of London. It also shows landmarks like the O2 arena and a birds eye view of London looking grey which shows it is not about a high class population. There is also a clue in the name calling it eastenders which tells you it set in the east end of london.
How do you know which institution broadcasts it?The BBC broadcasts eastenders. You can see
this from the BBC logo underneath the title and in the corner of the opening sequence. There is also no adverts in the programme which is a feature unique to the BBC
How do you know when its set?You know it is set in the twenty first century
by the modern landmarks that are in the opening sequence like the O2 arena and the millenium dome which opened in the year 2000.
What do we assume about the lifestyles of the characters from the music From the dull repetitive music at the start we
assume that the characters lives are similar and uninteresting. Also its quite a depressing tone which could reflect on the unhappy lives of the characters. It is not giving the impression that they have glamorous lifestyles but are more of a working class citizens.
Storyboard
From the first scene you can see a sports bag crayons and a football which suggests that a young boy lives here. Also the way the man is creeping down the stairs shows he does not live here and is trying to get out without being heard, and his shoes are shown in shot to tell us that he has stayed the night.
