Why are DVD menus important?

DVD menus are important because they tell you more information about the Movie you are watching and you can

change the language and other settings, to get the audios ready for the film.

Why are they enhanced by motion graphics/compositing?

The main reason for DVD menus is for information, but they also need the viewer to continue to watch the film as you can’t skip the DVD menu.

What design choices must be considered?

Target Audience The age rang that they are aiming, so that they get the right theme and colure combination. If they make a menu for kids you would have to

make a fun and entertaining DVD menu.

Colour Combination The colour combination is kinder vital because it can send the wrong tone and mood to the film like if the saw menu would have been made with the bright colour it just wouldn’t be the same and give you the wrong message

about the film. It would have made saw feel like happy and cheerful theme which it isn’t because people die and get chopped into pieces.

Transitions

The transitions are also important I think. I think a good DVD menu need good

transitions between the action of pressing the button and the film starting.

Graphics

DVD need a set good graphics like for example in the Sin City DVD menu the

cartoon theme is a good example of the good use of the graphics.

Movement

Movement in a DVD menu gives the viewer a bit of a WOW factor and it also prepares the viewer with the pace of the

movie.

Visual Effects

The Visual Effects are there to give that extra WOW factor to entertain

the audience.

Typography

Typography is kinder important because after all the visual effects and themes and colour combination you still need a good font you can’t just have the plain text because you are

expected to provide a good text that looks good and is readable to the viewer.
