EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW:
his is London. For all the bizarre nightlife
sights it may endure it’s not particularly known
as as a place you’d see grown men dancing like
idi idiots to music that’s not totally danceable. Nor
is is it the environment in which they’ll normally
drape their arms around each other and sway.
Yet that’s precisely what’s happening as Shotgun
Romance take to the stage.
It’s quite inspiring to see an all girl band turn an
audience filled with otherwise stoic men into squealing
teens. And they do it without effort. There’s no fancy
decorations, no glitter on the walls or expensive
lighting, the music these girls make, creates an entirely
unique atmosphere, that’s purely their own.
Shotgun Romance’s This is the Modern Waste has held
onto it’s Number One status in the Who charts again this
“WE’RE JUST THREE KIDS WHO PLAY MUSIC. I DONT GET WHAT ALL THE FUSS IS ABOUT.” Lucy Culshaw
week (12 March 2011). The girls were ecstatic when we
revealed to them that their record was the longest
Number One in the past decade, having stayed at the
top for the past nine weeks. And, after a lot of nagging,
we managed to score our very own exclusive interview
behind the scenes at the current hottest band’s latest
gig in London to find out what these Oxford born girls
are really about...
“We had to move out of Lotte’s because the neighbours
kept complaining” Shotgun’s drummer, Alice Jackson
says dejectedly of the production of the Oxford born
trio’s latest album, which mostly took place in the home
of Lotte Dobeni’s folks. She’s apparently unaware how
Ginger and Keith Moon inspired drum solos blasting
from the small, three bedroom cottage isn’t going to go
down well in the small family village of Ardington,
Oxfordshire.
When asked about their ultimate stardom, it seems it’s
Lotte Dobeni, the guitarist’s, turn to speak. “Well, yeah,
it’s cool and everything but we try not to let it bother
us... Don’t want it to affect the music, you know?
Because that why we’re all here. That’s how we got this
far... Because of the music, she expresses before Lucy
Culshaw puts her mark on the conversation.
“Yeah, Lotte’s totally right, we’re just three kids who
play music. If I’m honest, I don’t get what all the fuss is
about. We’re not perfect– far from it! How are we
different to any other band out there? What makes us
so special..?”
