Every light in the real world has a decay. In simple words, the farther away you get from a light, the dimmer the illumination from the light becomes. This is because the light
waves (or particles that we say photons) are spreading out and becoming less dense over distance.

For example:-If the light has an intensity of 1.0 at the source and in intensity of 0 at a distance of one meter, then we know that at 0.5 meters, the intensity will be 0.5.

light intensity decreases proportionally with the square of distance (the same as real world light) . Because light is spreading out both horizontally and vertically as it is transmitted away from the light source, its intensity, and therefore the density of photons, must be spread out both horizontally and vertically.

INFORMATION We are also provided intensity curves to control the decay of light with the help of curves. You can also create artistic effect with this. There is also PENUMBRA REGION (i.e. Partially shadowed region)which help us to control softness of light. We are also provided DROPOFF region. It controls the rate at which light intensity decreases from the center to the edge of the spot light beam. LINEAR DECAY is also known as INVERSE DECAY(IN MAX). QUADRATIC DECAY is also known as INVERSE SQUARE DECAY(IN MAX).
