Sound
The dialogue between the masked men consists of 2 groups of criminals plotting a bank heist talking about splitting the proceeds but one mentions that 'the joker' wants a cut. Cut to the second group asking who the joker is. This hooks the viewer as they are intrigued to find out who the joker is.
In the opening scene the music is very faint but has a feeling of thrill but the faintness of the track makes you feel anxious and anticipate what is to come. This adds to the gothic theme of the film.
The diegetic sounds of guns being clicked and cocked for action further reinforces that theory.
Camera Work
The camera work makes you feel like part of the criminal team as the over the shoulder shot makes you feel as if you are in the car. The forward tracking shot as they enter the bank is as if you are running in alongside them but it then switches around so like the victims you are running
Zooming in on the mask creates identity as follows of batman will know this could indicate the presence of the joker.
The use of the establishing shot of the big city shows the scale of the operation these criminals are trying to do
Mise en scene
The masks that the criminals have on are there to hide their identities but it also represents a little riddle in finding out who the joker is; the irony is that The joker’s identity is his face which is effectively a mask.
The use of a bank which is a conventional place for a crime to take place is also representative of the crime action genre
Mask is used to hide Joker’s face
But mask further adds to his identity as even When he takes off his mask he still effectivelyHas a concealed his identity as a person and become the Joker
Gun is a prop used in crime thrillers to show power and a convention of the genre
The duffle bag Is used to carry stolen money out in films, this a convention of the genre Masks hiding identity of different robbers
