COSTUME SETTING AND LOCATION IN MUSIC VIDEOSEinas Mohamed

LILY ALLEN ‘NOT FAIR’

I chose to analyse this video as I think that the costume,setting and location relates to the style of the music and the genre which is a cross between country and pop.

In the first scene of the video we are introduced to an old setting of a country/western type which are usually used with country singers. We see that the editing is made to look as if it is an old tape recording of a performance and that the location is clearly not real.

We see that Lily Allen has an old style microphone next to her and the lighting is made to look as if the people behind her are shadows.

Her costume of a white jumpsuit contrasts with the other band players and the setting as stands out because of its brightness comparing it to the other band players who have dark coloured clothing which is similar to one another. This is so we know who the main singer is and she stands out from the whole set and location.

As we can see here, the whole set is bright and vibrant like which suits the song as the song isn’t slow or depressing but up beat. The set resembles a western barn and there are fake trees, hay bales and a cow placed to make it look like this

The backing singers are both wearing the same outfits and resemble a cowgirl/dolly parton style fitting the music video and song.
