Brief History About the Burrito Project

In 2006 two friends got together to make burritos and feed those in need, on “Skid Row” in Downtown Los Angeles, California. They started out making and passing out approximately 90 burritos. Today approximately 300 -400 burritos are served to the Downtown L.A’s Homeless population.

The Los Angeles Burrito Project has grown to up to twenty members and serves burritos weekly.

Mission of the Burrito Project “The mission of Burrito Project

is to provide people with the means to become active members in their community. It is a way for people to bridge a gap between the fed and the hungry. Burrito Project is in no way shape or form affiliated with any religious or political organization; we are non-fame and a non-personal recognition group (hence the bandanas for pictures). There is no Burrito Project head quarters or leader nor a need for one.” (Retrieved November 12, 2009 from www.laist.com)

Goals of The Burrito Project’s Fundraising

Progress

At this time, the members contribute their own funds to supply the food, and many actively seek donations, but it is often inconsistent. There is no budget for this group as it varies from month to month based on the contributions of volunteers.

Raise funds to serve 600 - 800 burritos for three months in a row, once a week.

The group would like to raise $1,000 for supplies.

on getting the word out about The Burrito Project’s Mission and their fundraiser event, Rock For Tortillas in hopes of raising funds for their volunteer service. The goal is to create a three month stable budget and double their quantity in the amount of burritos served.
