Page 2: BELT Conventions

This is an establishing shot of the back alleys the gangsters stood at. This settings follow some conventions of a gangster film as they hang around in alley ways, however, this does not follow some conventions of a gangster film as they are mainly filmed during the night.

Page 3: BELT Conventions

This is a long shot of the “gangsters” hanging around on their phones in the back alleys of their local area. This follows the convention that all gangsters hang around looking intimidating. Their hats, puffer jackets, tracksuit jackets and tracksuit tops all symbolize the power and the danger that gangsters portray.

Page 4: BELT Conventions

This is a long shot of the two main characters back in their school days. The school, being a stereotypical setting for a movie involving teenagers. The idea of the girl being innocent in her uniform and the boy being a rebel not in uniform shows what they may be like in future life.

Page 5: BELT Conventions

This is a medium shot of the two main characters outside when one of the characters had left school and they bump into each other a year later. This is a stereotypical place for the gangsters to hang out, but not the girl.

This is an over-the-shoulder shot of the main girl and boy talking, you can fully see the boys facial expressions via the medium shot and him not having his hood up properly. However, the hood symbolizes the he is a hood-rat.

Page 7: BELT Conventions

This is an over-the-shoulder shot of the boy and girl talking, we can fully see the girls facial expressions as she has nothing covering her face or head. The pink scarf makes her look more feminine and maybe easily intimidated. The flower in her blonde hair also shows femininity.

Page 8: BELT Conventions

This is a medium 2 shot of the main characters showing their facial expressions and body language. You can see in their facial expressions that they are well into the conversation as they are looking each other in the eyes. You can see the difference between the two different personalities by what they are wearing as jack is wearing tracksuits and clothes that are considered to be intimidating while Lauren is wearing clothes that are considered to be feminine and mature.

Page 9: BELT Conventions

This is a high angle shot of the main boy character picking up his drugs from the floor. Using the high angle shot makes the boy look smaller and therefore inferior and weak. This has broken a common convention in ‘gangster’ films as the gangsters are more than likely to have a low angle shot making them look superior to everyone else.
