What is the BBFC?

• The British Board of Film Classification. Their job is to rate films and censor them by giving them an age label.

• The classifications are based on their guidelines. The guidelines are based on public consultation and their opinions.

How do they classify films?

• They classify films according to age. Especially protecting young children under a certain age of watching films such as horror and pornographically unsuitable images. BBFC rates films to ensure that they are rated at the suitable age before being released.

Are the 7 symbols classified the same or differently?

• In different countries you would have to abide by the law according to how they’ve rated it. The guidelines are set in place to protect children from harmful or unsuitable content. The protection of the children act was created in 1978 an example of this is horror imagery which is unsuitable for young kids.

Parental GuidanceDetails Of How Its Classified:-Discriminatory language or behaviour is not accepted, unless its a educational context.-Reference to illegal drugs or drug misuse has to be shown harmless or it can also carry out a anti-drug message.-Any imitable behaviour that young children are likely to copy is not accepted unless its safe and fun. -Aggressive or very frequent language is not accepted. Mild bad language only.-Nudity is accepted unless its with a sexual context.-Sexual activity may be implied however only if its discreet and infrequent.-Threat or violence should not be intense or with any detail.

10 Points 1. It is a drama set in Hackney, telling the

story of two brothers caught in gang violence.

2. It was rated 15 for its strong violence, language and hard drug use.

3. There is sight drug use, including joint smoking and cocaine snorting.

4. However, drug use is not promoted and merely set the scene in which the action is played out.

5. There is a frequent use of strong language-Discriminatory language, such as “homo” , “faggot” and “batty boy” , However, discriminatory language and attitudes are not endorsed by the film as a whole.

6. There also a hint of racism when a man states how sick he is of his "son hanging out with black boys.”

7. From the two scenes of strong bloody violence, there are puncture wounds on the dog and the man laying in a pile of blood, however, there is no dwelling on detail of the infliction of the wounds.

8. There is some strong threat in the film, including a mugging involving threat with knives.

9. There are some scenes of sex, however, there is no nudity or strong detail.

10. No one younger than 15 may see a 15 rated film in the cinema.
