(Paula) 1st Idea For Opening Sequence

• Starts with the mother of the main character having a go at her, asking what does she plan to do with her future.

• Girl storms to her room and writes in her diary all the anger, depression and loneliness she is experiencing and breaks down.

• She phones her friend to tell her she needs someone to talk to as she is feeling very down, However she has a argument with her friend and her friend tells her to just leave her alone.

• She runs home and as she steps out in the road she gets knocked over.

• Introduce the film title at the end of opening sequence to let the audience calm down after seeing the accident.

Part B

• WWW

• It was a good concept and we had a ideal plan of how it was going to be filmed.

• But we resulted in not using this idea for the opening sequence.

• EBI

• This was a good idea but it didn’t quite match our genre.

• It was more of a drama sequence, but it could have been better if we had more of a “psychological” concept

Part B

Page 3: Assignment 18 draft 3 part 1

(Mickella) 2nd Idea For Opening Sequence

• Starts off with main character on her way to school.

• She arrives at the school and sees her best friend they have a conversation together and everything seems normal.

• A car drives up in slow motion towards them and the scene turns black and white.

• Then the car purposely runs over the main character and drives off.

• The best friend starts smiling at laughing and the scene ends.

WWWThere is a lot of suspense and mystery which are conventions of psychological thrillers. The storyline was very interesting and it would have kept the audience entertained

EBIIt would have been better if there was more action, it was almost too basic. Because of how this opening sequence is set it would have been a low grade because it wouldn’t have had a range of shots.

Part B

Page 4: Assignment 18 draft 3 part 1

(Cerise) 3rd Idea For Opening Sequence

• Girl is working on her laptop in her house alone

• She receives a letter through the letter box

• The letter contains little bits of paper that spell out “Knock Knock”

• Then gets a knock on the door but when she goes to open no one is there

• She Opens the door And Finds A Creepy Doll Sitting On Her Doorstep

WWW- Good concept of the genre, it also has elements of the basic conventions of a thriller.- Having a doll as a character.- Having the girl alone sets the atmosphere.

EBIIf we add more confusion and put more elements of psychological.

Chosen Genre :Psychological Thriller

What our genre is all about? We choose this genre because its doesn’t only make the audience jump like other thrillers it has a sense of mystery that the human mind needs to solve.

Psychological thriller is a sub genre of Thriller it often involves the elements of mystery, suspense with a few mind games.

Mind Games

Part C

Psychological Thrillers cause frustration

Part D Our Inspirations

Page 10: Assignment 18 draft 3 part 1

Part D Films we got inspired by and why (Funny Games)

I like the concept of playing games to make protagonists feel threatened in their own home.

Mentally and physically torturing the innocent for pleasure. Psychological thrillers don’t

always end in harmony.

It relates to our opening sequence because it all happens in the comfort of somebody’s home.

A range of shots they used would suit with our sequence.

Page 11: Assignment 18 draft 3 part 1

Funny Games (Print Screens)

Antagonists – Unknown neighbours, young men who want to have fun. Possibly looking for trouble

Protagonists – Vulnerable family moving into a new house. Mum, Dad and Son (Nuclear Family)

I liked the characterisation between 2 groups. So you know who the “baddies” are.

(Little boy’s behaviour) Hostile scared behaviour (close up shot) showing emotion of fear or disturbed

Part D

Page 12: Assignment 18 draft 3 part 1

Films we got inspired by and why (Hard Candy)

●It met the conventions of Mystery , Suspense due to though out the whole movie I was at the edge of my seat not knowing what was going to happen next.

A lot of mind games where portrayed in this film, which we want to show in our sequence. I like the settings of the

film. In very isolated lonely areas.

The representation of the characters was interesting just focusing of 2 people. Shows mental like behaviour.

I like the range of shots that was used especially the ones that show emotion and reaction.

Part D

Page 13: Assignment 18 draft 3 part 1

Hard Candy (Print Screens)

A fear of doubt (close up) showing her emotion

Interaction of 2 characters (long shot)

Secrets Mind Games

Suspense Torture

Extreme close up is used to focus on something important.

Low angle close up showing the intensity of his footsteps.

Part D

Page 14: Assignment 18 draft 3 part 1

Child’s Play (Chucky)

Comes Under The Genre Of Thriller/Horror

The Concept Of A Children's Toy Coming To Life And Is Playing An Evil, Murdering Villain

Even Though The Film Itself Is Old The Plot Is Still Entertaining To Watch

Has The Basic Conventions Of A Horror And Thriller; Murder, Knifes, Death

Part D

Page 15: Assignment 18 draft 3 part 1

Children’s Doll-Voodoo Doll- Possession-Evil-Devil

Chucky Showing Normal Child-Friendly Facial Expression

Woman Goes To Destroy The Doll By Burning Him In The Fire.

Chucky Changes expression to become a more frightening character

The Character of chucky then proves to be evil when he attacks the woman

Chosen Themes Part F

Theme for our sequence is

Revenge and Suffering

Page 17: Assignment 18 draft 3 part 1

Our chosen theme is…

Part E

What is revenge? To inflict punishment in return for (injury or insult). The act of retaliating for wrongs or injury received.to inflict equivalent injury or damage for (injury received)

Paths of Vengeance We used “REVENGE” as a theme because it is a act caused by the antagonist to inflict damage, fear and pain to the protagonist.

This happens to Nia in the opening sequence when certain things occur to make her life a living hell and hard to cope.

RevengePart E

Page 18: Assignment 18 draft 3 part 1

Research On Revenge • I watched a range of movies

such as “Dead Silence” and "Law abiding citizen” they all had the aspect of revenge I watched how they got their “revenge” and all of them was a Painful MURDER with lots of mind games associated

Clips from dead silence the old man is tortured& killed (revenge) for his past behaviour

Girl gets murdered because she laughed & Mocked the doll (Dead silence)

Part F

Page 19: Assignment 18 draft 3 part 1

Research On Revenge ContinuedMan (Clyde) reveals his identity on the man who killed and raped his daughter and wife

The murderer tries to shoot him not knowing when he pulls the trigger the gun will numbed his body which Clyde had planned as a part of his torture

Clyde then tortures the man then kills him but cutting him into pieces (48 pieces)

Part F

Page 20: Assignment 18 draft 3 part 1

Suffering I watched the“ Pursuit of Happiness” this has elements of suffering in it.

Man gets kicked out of his house and is now homeless

Man and his young son sleep in the train station no blanket , no pillow , No hope (Suffering)

Part F
