What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product

Whilst constructing this magazine I have learnt a lot about Adobe Photoshop, using tools such as the magnet tools and feather tools which erases the person from the background, this was quite tricky at first but eventually I got a perfect result, for example here I have cut the model out of the original background and placed her in a neutral background which looks more professional.

Through Photoshop I discovered how to use effects such as the ‘Flare’ effect which adds a camera flare to the image as shown below, I added this effect to make the magazine look professional

Looking back at your preliminary task, what did you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to the full product

On the left is my preliminary task which I created at the start of the year, using basic tools on Photoshop, since then I have learnt the conventions of a music magazine and have incorporated that into my final piece, I have conducted a lot of research into similar magazines of the one I have created to plan my magazine and doing this has enabled me to create a more professional looking magazine.I have also seen the importance of market research and through this I have been able to aim my final piece to a more firm audience

Since my preliminary task my understanding of Photoshop and its tools has grew dramaticallyWhich has let my work from then grow and become more professional looking

How does your media represent particular social groups

The target audience for my magazine is for male and female sixteen and above who enjoy Dance and pop music. The colours I have used throughout my magazine are related to the Dance genre such as red, black and grey which are all unisex colours, the magazine follows the conventions of a normal music magazine as it has the sub headingswith stories on, mainly about celebrity news.

Throughout the magazine there is competitions and fashion advice which can seen to be moreIn a female magazine but due to the magazine having unisex colour scheme and entertainmentFor both sex’s the magazine is for both genders.

There magazine is not aimed at a particular race even though there is a white British model On the front cover and on the contents page, the magazine is open for anyone in the age band.

Who would be the audience for your media product?

•16+•Male and Female•Dance and R‘n’B Music lovers•Top Charts• Celebrity News•Competitions

I designed a questionnaire to ask people around college a few simple questions about what they would like in a magazine, these were the final results

I found this by designing a questionnaire which asked basic questions on their choice of magazine, from this research I planned my magazine and my target audience was found

In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products ( Front cover)

When I started to plan my magazine front cover I conducted a lot of research into other magazines such as ‘Vibe’ and ‘Rolling Stone’ as these interested me and they were similar to the genre that mine was .

The image I chose to have as my front cover image was chosen due to it looks different and it stands out which I intended it to do, for the text I have used a simple colour scheme of Red and black which is simple and fits into the genre of the music.

When designing my cover I added my knowledge of the Gutenberg diagram to the design to attract the audience into my magazine. The title can be seen conventional as the font is a typical font used on a music magazine and it is perfectly horizontal.

In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products (Contents page)

Compared to other contents pages’ I think my contents pageIs conventional as it is straight forward, I have used unity Throughout my magazine as I have used the same text font and Colour scheme.

As for the layout of the contents page the list of contents can beSeen to be unconventional as most magazines are all in a straight Forward vertical line, where as I have split my contents up into Two different groups on left and right of the page.

Again as mentioned on the previous slide I have used theGutenberg diagram on this page as straight away when the Reader opens the page they will see the competition and enterIt, as many people do with popular music magazines.

In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products (double page)

For my double page spread I have used A conventional layout of using three images And an interview around the images , the Double page background is again a plainBackground with the names of certain songs in gray which I think works perfect.

Again I have used unity on this page as the headings on the double page is the same font as used on the front cover apart from the word ‘monster’ which is a different type of font which relate to the word, this is unconventional to use different font in a heading but I believe it looks well and fits in perfect, the Colour scheme has also been kept the same red, black and grey.

How did I attract/address my reader

When first thinking of how to attract an audience I thought I needed a good font and a good image, to begin with I researched fonts by looking on Dafont.com and found the perfect font which I used, then I conducted research into looking at how similar genre magazine front cover models are photographed and after a number different locations and photographs I found one that I was happy with

After this research I looked into colour schemes and seen the majority of people liked red, black and gray as it fits in with the dance genre so I decided set up a colour scheme which would run through my magazine. From here I had to decide on certain sub headings which would attract the audience to buy my magazine, when I conducted market research via a questionnaire most people said they would want celebrity news (gossip) so I added a few lines on certain celebrity’s which would attract audience to pick up my magazine.

What kind of media institution distribute your media product and why?

When conducting research on which institution would distribute my magazine I found a website called ‘intermedia partners’ this company distributes all types of media and magazines are one of them, music is one of the types of magazines they distribute.

If Intermedia partners did distribute my magazine I think this would be perfect as they have many types of media such as radio and television so they could advertise cheaply over their other company's which would be Media convergence.

I feel that this would need a lot of advertisement due to the music magazine industry being so big and it would be difficult for a new magazine opening.
