The first monument you can see arriving in Cagliari is the Basilica of

Bonaria.

The Basilica houses a statue of the Virgin Mary, misteriously arrived from the sea, as well as a museum containing some artifacts and mummies.

The most significant monument is the Bastione Saint Remy.

• to reach the top there are two parallel staircases of about 170 steps, but after so much fatigue… you can enjoy a breathtaking view of Cagliari.

The Basilica of San Saturnino is the oldest church in Cagliari and it is

dedicated to the patron saint of the city.

The church was built in the V century A.D. and is located in the suburb of

Villanova.

When the Romans conquered Cagliari they built the“amphiateatre”

The theatre could hold up to 10,000 spectators that could watch exotic

animal hunting, public executions and dramatic duels to the death between

gladiators.

The Roman amphitheatre today is a centre for lyric and

theatrical shows.

Between 1216 and 1326, Cagliari was under the Pisan rule. The city was fortified with walls and towers.

San Pancrazio tower is the highest tower in Cagliari.

The tower served as a defensive bulwark for the numerous attacks from Genoese and Moorish people.

contributed with his originality in the modernization of Cagliari.
