Somehow Ambrose was managing to continue work as a pianist while looking after her baby boy Julian.

She had to abandon her business arrangement with Bernice after Frank flaked out on them, but she had managed to find a stable, reliable gig at a restaurant.Playing ambient music while people ate was hardly fulfilling her potential, but it was regular hours she could plan babysitters around.

She was super excited when Julian aged up into a toddler. Not only would he be more interesting than a baby, but the babysitting fee would get reduced.

The magical experience of being a mother wasn’t completely lost on Ambrose, but she would have been the first to admit she couldn’t be as dreamy or spontaneous as she once had. She’d finally had a reason to pull her head down out of the clouds.

That wasn’t such a bad thing either. Bernice, watching her, felt Ambrose was a more rounded person now. She’d found focus in her life.

Bernice was changing too. She had grown up a lot since marrying Gracie, and now she was discovering that being a grown up didn’t mean not having a playful side. She loved hanging out with Julian.

He spent the evening musing about his new feelings, even phoned Warren to get some outside perspective. By the next day he was certain he wanted to involve himself in his neighbours life.

During his morning walk he called her over when he spotted her getting her post and introduced himself.

James had heard all about Annette’s disastrous gathering from Megan, so wanted to cheer her up with a visit to the park. He struggled with his attraction to her when she asked him to dance…

And played horseshoes terribly, distracted by how beautiful the younger teen was.

They spent the whole day together, and James walked her home before the curfew.

Not only was she beautiful, but she was so warm and friendly, polite and… he was totally smitten.

With a daring he didn’t realise he possessed he kissed her.
